^carputers are
1)PC(most) im a mac guy so I would have to buy a mac mini and such,
2)Not portable(undock the ipad=the best antitheft)
3)Carputers have a fixed 7" screen. Ipad has a 10"(yes you can do a custom carputer with 9-12" TFT screen but then id have to find a place to mount the brain etc. and run more wires )
4) Carputer requires all types of software for navigation, bluetooth, gps, not to mention all the corresponding antennas. Ipad= all built in.
5)common its APPLE

Of course Apple will deliver a continuous series of models providing improvement for its iPad.
The requirement is insuring that your dash mount accommodates the new units as they become available. It becomes a little wiggly if Apple decides to change the iPad’s physical configuration (but that is not likely considering the large aftermarket plethora of products that would be antiquated with even a small dimensional change in the iPad).
Your solution is still good.

I got a question.....
Is there a 4 channel iPod cord. Or do I have to buy and eq to get all the audio outputs needed. You only have 2chanel setup right?
And then what about a my sub amp output? Would you run just have run that amp off the speaker amp audio pass thru.
I hear that people are having problems when they overheating in your car, then don't work?

I like this, but wish it could somehow look better when the I-pad is removed. There is something about the contour of the little arms that looks alien (i.e. extra-terrestrial) to me. Anyone else getting that? Like it should show up in Halo or something.
At any rate, this is a great idea with great results. And now with Spotify disk space for music isn't an issue. (Same goes for iPhones, but still)

I gotta say, that you have really followed the old saying,"when there's a will, there's a way".Props on the fine work that you put into this project.
This was not something that was done over a weekend...
I like your concept and execution and functionality. However, the design of the "holder" with the little "wings" do not work for me.Design being what I do,its the shape of those
"wings" that just do not flow into the overall design of the dash.Basically, the "wings" are there for a function. To hold the unit into the dash. The design of the wings could be improved by trying to "not see them".To me,the curved shape of the wings(this was alot of work on your part!)is the negative. The parts of the dash are all square&rectangular.
"wings" in a thin rectangle would better blend in to the dash. The objective would be for the "wings" to be as invisible as possible.Another option, although alot of work and creativity, would be to figure out how to make the wings operate on hinges(spring loaded).Just wondered, how often would the i Pad be removed?Sometimes an simple idea
is the best...put Velcro on the back of the i Pad and of course, mating Velcro on the interior surface of the cubby. No need for the "wings".No problem if dimensions of later
models change.

I just happened to stumble across this and I must say very nice work man!! I think it looks really good and props to you for making something completely original.
It would look pretty cool in carbon fiber, but it looks sick as is as well. Great job
