Default Advice on setting up my 350z with a single 10" woofer

Hello all! I recently aquired an 06 350z

It has the Bose 240w sound system which sounds decent. crisp enough for my liking.
I do listen to a lot of electronic music So I'd like to have a setup that produces a lot of deep, crisp, full, filling bass.

My old setup in my 330ci was a 12 inch woofer with a 1200 watt amp

. (I built the box tuned for the speaker XD)

The 350z Is a bit smaller and I might be limited to a 10 inch or 8 inch woofer. If I do the 10 inch, Id get the enclosure that fits under the rear strut tower bar.

These enclosures are about .75ft3.

What Woofer should I go with for this size enclosure to get a decent sound?
All recommendations will be looked over!

Should I go with dual 10's instead ? Will that sound better? Also, what does everyone think of those 8" tubes? Will that produce the sound that I would want?

I see a lot of car guys on YouTube spending 500$ on an 8" woofer.. Would buying a better quality smaller woofer be equivalent or better than buy say a 10 or 12 inch woofer? (they may listen to different types of music but I want that deep bass for heavy bass electronic music.)

This is the Amp i'd be using.. not the best quality, but it will do have to do.
F1200M SSL Sound Force

http://www.soundstormlab.com/auto/ca...-storm-f1200m/

<Performance Specs
Total Power Output 1200 Watts Peak Power @ 2 Ω 1200 Watts x 1 RMS
Power @ 4 Ω 500 Watts x 1
Speaker Impedance 2-8 Ω T.H.D.
(Total Harmonic Distortion) 0.01 %
S/N Ratio (A-Weighted) 103 dB
Frequency Response 9 Hz to 50 kHz ±1 dB>

How accurate are theses specs and do these put out quality power?

I should technically be able to piggy back off the two rear speakers and hook that up the the "high level input" as seen in this pic right? Does anyone know if the bose speakers put out to much power for this or will it be okay?

The music I listen to often reaches 30hz so keep that in mind. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I know a the basics about car audio etc and will be doing the install myself. Sorry for all the questions, I just want to do it the right way first!

I hate to break it to you but that's a 200W amp.

If you're going to do anything you're best off saving up your pennies and replacing everything.

It says RMS Power @ 4 Ω 500 Watts x 1

??? if the spec sheet is bullsh*t then im okay with that.. i know it was a shitty amp when I bought it.

What would you recommend then? at first i was only thinking about spending a hundred bucks on the woofer and a hundred on the box..

I have yet to build a system that didn't cost at least $2k so I'm not good with low budget stuff.

And as for the power output this is what I found.

RMS Power Range : 200 Watts
Number Of Channels: 1
Maximum Power: 1200 Watts
Built In Crossovers: Yes

did you find that from someone that did tests on it?

this is the product page.. i know some of these knock of amps may not produce what they advertise/have issues with dirty signal power or dirty quality.. thd is .01% though?

So if i re-do this system and want to spend 250 300 max on amp and sub what would you reccomend? I'd be putting it in the .75 cubic foot box that goes under the strut tower. link above.

I'd like to hit 30hz as the electronic music i listen goes that low often.

Id like to stay with know quality brands such as rockford fosgate, or alpine.. or something of similar quality..... or whatever else you recommend for my situation.

The specs I saw were from another place that sells them. 30hz really isn't that low, but I get what you're saying. My last setup in the Z peaked at 36hz and would easily play down to 20hz.

If that box has at least 5 5/8", 6" preferred mounting depth then it should be what you're looking for.

This amp would be a great match for it too.

Mounting depth - approx. 7" (based on a sub with a 6.125" diameter magnet - Most subs 7" deep or less will fit.)
Is sundown a good quality brand? That stuff Is a little pricey, may have to wait till my next paycheck lol.. Any sub amp combo that would be 200 ish $ ?

Also.. does anyone have any advice on how to wire the 12v from the battery to the trunk?

:O Thanks for teh audio ****

PS: kinda re thinking this... looking at all this stuff online makes me just want to spend money that I shouldnt.. Kinda leaning towards just finding a good quality subwoofer that can take advantage of what my pre existing SSL F1200M Amp can put out.. if its really around 200w rms max then what sub should I choose?

I've had a used Sundown amp for 7 years now and it's still working good as new. I also have 2 Sundown amps in the Z. They are about 5-6 years old.

They make good products and the owner is a great guy. They cost a little more than best buy stuff but it's higher quality.

Oh wow, everything im reading online says theyre excellent! Im still gonna have to just go with the sub and the box for now.. then upgrade the amp in a month or so when I save up some more cash.

Leaning towards the Alpine Type s.. Question is.. 2 ohm or 4??

I have a similar setup in my Z. Single 10" sub in a z-enclosure box under the strut bar powered by a monoblock amp. I have had the setup for a while. I am using a JL 10w3 with a kenwood amp, 300 rms. I think this sub/amp combo can be had for under $300. I am not sure what range the sub/amp can or cannot hit, but I am very happy with the JL sub.

The amp you have appears to be happy with a 2 ohm load. So either get a single voice coil sub (SVC) that is 2 ohm - or dual voice coil sub (DVC) that is 1 or 4 ohms per coil, then wiring accordingly (series or parallel) to 2 ohm.

And of course two 10"s are better (louder) then one. Just keep in mind you'll need twice the air space, then the power from the amp will be divided in half and you need to get the final ohm load correct.

I listen to EDM and old school rap using a single 8" (hidden in the stock location) using 250 (real) watts from a bridged Kicker amp. I'm more into sound quality then loudness these days.

How would I go about wiring it properly for a 2 ohm load?

Here's my two cents...and I researched this same scenario a LOT when I was in your shoes.

I bought the 10" Infinity sub on Amazon for about $50....and it's fantastic for music quality in an under-strut box. The 10" will just fit and hits plenty hard with even a decent cheap amp...no need for 1000 watts of ridiculousness.

If you want the exact model number I can look it up, but I figured just pointing you to Amazon and 10" Infinity subs should clue you in to close enough. It looks good too and is reliable.

It's DVC (dual voice coil) at 4ohms.

Hope this helps,

if your someone like me who is just looking for something that sounds good but not over killing the car. i say go with a single 10 inch sundown audio sd-10. the sub would work perfect with that box in the picture and you wont be disappointed either. the sub might cost you $200 but it's worth everything cent. as fare as a amp go if you don't mind buying a used one i go with a jl audio 250/2 you can find them online for $100 to $150 and the amp puts out 500 watts true clean power which is enough for that sub.

I already tried suggesting Sundown but I don't know anything about audio.

What part of Tulsa are you from? Haven't seen another Z with a system in it around these parts...

If i had the money to get awesome quality speakers I totally would cause im an absolute Audiophile. I'll just have to with what i can afford at the moment which would be 200$ tops for sub + the 80$ box on ebay.

You'd be better off waiting a little and saving up to get good stuff the first time instead of spending all your money now, then taking it out later, selling it for half of what you paid for it and spending even more money to get the good stuff.

Been there done that.

Well i'm sold on that box that fits under the strut tower. I'm thinking the alpine type S 2 ohm will be able to hold me over for the time being. (those two things are in my price range)

The amp will be the first thing I upgrade though, and it will be good quality amp that can power that speaker to its full potential :P
