One power supply for 3.3V and 3.4V devices, is it possible?
Hi. Long story short, trying to power up Apple TV and Airport Express in my car and wanted to use the same power supply for both devices. However, ATV uses 3.4V and AE - 3.3V.
Is 0.1V a really a big difference to get 2 different power supplies (assuming that it has enough current to supply both devices)? If only one power supply will work, should I make 3.3V or 3.4V as its output?
Thank you.

^ yeah, I was gonna say, what's the amperage-pull on either device? I can line up 8 AA batteries to make 12 volts, but it aint gonna start my car...

I don't remember exactly but it was something like 1.75A for each. I got step down converter with current of 8A to power them up.
Why you wouldn't recommend to install Apple devices in the car?
When you get nice SQ system installed and want to listen music wirelessly, I don't see any other options. Bluetooth sound quality sucks, I would sacrifice powering up time for the quality sound streaming over wifi. Plus an option to stream your video - you can pretty much watch anything live or use more advanced navigation like Waze and a lot more.

Your comment “I can line up 8 AA batteries to make 12 volts, but it aint gonna start my car...” isn’t relevant here since our discussion concerns the voltage restriction needed in a power supply.
The Apple devices we are discussing use low voltage and low amperage.

If it's OK for a motorhome, it's OK for a car.
Here are Apple's environmental requirements for the device:
It doesn't matter where it is as long as you keep within Apple's specifications.
Here are Apple's environmental requirements for the device:
- Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
- Storage temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)
- Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
- Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)

Seriously though, this project reminds of the CarPC’s we saw a few years ago. The introduction of tablets slowed the CarPC effort.
And now, Apple is developing new hardware and software for automobiles. CarPlay is one example. Recent documents suggest Apple is developing a self driving car.

Also are you are disassembling these devices to get to the internal power rails? I thought the apple tv and airport where line powered?
Either way i would start the devices at 3.3V and if the ATV doesn't work get a separate buck converter for it.

Cux350z Which permission are you talking about??? I bought it, it's mine. I can do what ever I want with it, I don't need to ask permission from nobody.
I don't care if they like it or not
rancor No need for cellular modem. AE creates wifi, you are streaming from phone, which already have a cellular connection. The only thing you have to do is to change AE settings, so your phone doens't recognize it as an internet source.
And yes, you have to disassemble them. There are plenty of DIY's in the internet with an explanation how to do it.

Cool, last time I remember being on a WiFi connection without internet access my Nexus 6, I know different OS so probably different operation, refused to use my cellular connection without first disconnecting from the router.

I read it and I’m sure koren read it as well.
I think Apple has a well stated TOS for all their products. I should also tell you that I have been an Apple VAR.
You keep putting out “teasers” without stating the information. I’m trying hard to figure out why you just don’t post the facts supporting your statements.
I really do not think you understand koren's and my objectives with Apple products.
Cux350z... Please post what you are thinking and your points. So far you have not presented anything useful on this thread.
koren is asking good questions, and it seems you are just interfering.

Spike100 Definitely will. I got everything ready, just have to wait for the car to be done at the sound shop (one of the amps broke after 2 weeks of using), so I can start this little project.
This I have installed so far:
HU: Alpine W505
Alpine TME-S370 monitor
Alpine DHA-S690 Changer
Amps:
Arc Audio SE-4200
Arc Audio SE-2300
Speakers:
Morel Supremo 602 2-way component
Subs:
2 TC Sounds Epic 8" DVC
Sound Processor:
Mosconi DSP
