Anyway--I'll say this: I am by no means new to car audio and have PERSONALLY owned practically every "uber woofer" in current car audio whether the company is mainstream or not.
One thing I have learned (after now owning every W7 size available) is that this is one very very sensitive speaker. Most of the reviews online are done by babbling idiots that just repeat information that they may have heard.
In some occassions I feel like they validate their "cheaper" purchases because they for whatever reason did not or could not afford the 13w7 which IMHO and many others' is the current car audio benchmark as far as SQ goes. This sub was designed to be EXTREMELY accurate--its insane output is a side effect of a great design. Not to mention NO sub I've ever owned extends lower than the W7 series--that anyone will admit ..even my 15" RE XXX fell short and that was being sent 1600 watts RMS!!!!
Usually people say the W7 sound like crap--I want to wager that they either
A) Did not have a solid front stage
B) Did not install properly
C) Did not follow JL specs
C is the most important, followed by A and B. I've never seen such a touchy woofer in my life. If the box isn't 100% right, the SQ suffers. We went sealed, and exactly followed JL specs.
Thanks for the concerns, but I can assure you there will be no issues as far as SQ is concerned. And as far as SPL is concerned--forget about it. No one in a Z (as far as I know) can touch me right now (not really something I care about).
Take it easy and I hope this helps bro!
Respect..

There is no question the W7 line of speakers are a masterpeice of speaker engineering.
Have you heard an IDMax? Flat-cone eD A Series? Ov.2 series? Brahma? Diamond D9?
Most of those have just as good SQ as the W7 speakers do, at a much less price. No, they won't have quite as much output, but you don't realize how much "big name" companies such as JL, RF, etc put into marketing, and designing subs for eye-appeal. Factor those costs with dealer markups and it raises the price of their products significantly. It makes it very very difficult for those companies to compete with the value that "internet" brands have. They have zero marketing costs, and you buy directly from the manufacturer = less cost for a better product.
You have to remember that certain subs go well depending on what your fronstage consists of....
And yes, I am sure there are people out there on audio forums trying to justify having a "cheaper" sub by bandwagon bad mouthing JL audio. But there is an underlying truth.

Ravi is an ex Brahma and XXX owner ... he is essentially a top-of-the-line sub ***** j/k bro ...
All that aside ... there is somethign about a W7 that cannot be denied .. and that is its superb industrial design. It is one of the best looking subs availible today...and I am ~75% sure that is what pushed him over the edge and got him into the JL.
For a show system like his .. the W7 is one of the better choices.

I am by no means a JL bandwagon type person. Unlike 98.7% of the people on caraudio.com/vb or other car audio websites I have actually OWNED AND COMPARED the following in the past three years alone:
Adire Audio 15" Brahma
RE 15" XXX
RE 12" XXX
Elemental E10A series
IDMAX 12"
JL Audio 12W6V2-D4
2 x JL Audio 10W6V2-D4
JL Audio 10W7
JL Audio 12W7
JL Audio 13W7
So yes, compared to most everyone, I've tried it all!! I'd like to mention that I went from an SPL guy to more of an SQL guy...started with slot ported boxes tuned low..and then moved towards differnt tuning and now sealed is the only enclosure for me. Furthermore, from a show perspective the 13w7 will win every time--you know why? No validation necessary--if you say 13w7..anyone who knows anything about caraudio will say "damn..." and knows that you are dealing with not the best out there..but IMHO the BENCHMARK for SQL subwoofers today.
Not to mention I don't pay retail for ANYTHING...and got my audio equipment for less than what the retail is for the new RE lineup. I don't mess around--thanks for the help all, and thanks Jim for lookin out for me

I don't mean my post to come off as rude, and if it did I'm sorry..just tryiing to inform. Hypnoz, just re-read your post and if you look at what I just posted coincidentally I've owned most of the subs on your list.
Good to have more audio heads on here--we can help those less informed.

this is kinda funny to read
i agree that ravi prolly will never really exploit the extra output the 13w7 has over the other subs, he does have one thing: the ability to say that he has a 13w7 cleanly installed in a 350Z, and THAT, is something not many people can do lol

GQ you think the W7 has better SQ than all of those subs?
I've seen audiobahn's win show awards... doesn't mean anything. I don't buy audio for visual, or some teenage kids to say wow when I tell them I have a W7
The install in this thread looks sweet, I'm sure it sounds amazing! Good job!

LOL! Well, just be happy you can afford to do so! You should try out an eD 13Ov.2 or 16Ov.2... though you say you loved the brahma best and love the W7, which are both kinda low-heavy subs... may not like it. But hell, compared to the price of those subs they're very cheap.
Also I heard the newest version of the IDmax's have improved low-end.... not sure what version you had.
