Smile New Head Unit installed (Clarion).

I finally got a chance to install my new head unit tonight. It is a Clarion DXZ835MP, this thing matches the color of the factory dash lights perfectly. I can't wait until I get a chance to install my component set, things should start to sound pretty good then. I have a few pictures but they al suck, the color match is way better in person than in the pictures.

Hopefully this Clarion head unit sounds better than the Bose/Clarion that came with my Touring model.

Needless to say, the stock Premium head unit has been replaced, along with anything else that says Bose/Clarion on it. Its all sitting in a box in the basement now...I wonder what it will go for on Ebay ???

Even with the factory trash speakers still in place (not for long) the difference in sound with this head unit is night and day. Clarion's aftermarket products are light years apart from the garbage that they use in their OEM stereos. I have used Clarion head units for years, they make a great product (except for OEM). Don't let the Clarion name on the factory HU give you a bad impression of Clarion's aftermarket equipment.

I have heard alot of Clarion ProAudio components in the past, and I actually have an UNGO (clarion) Pro9000 alarm installed in my '97 Eclipse GS-T. However, I haven't seen or heard much from the Clarion people lately and I thought they resorted to doing OEM heads only anymore. You cannot even find a Clarion dealer locally in this area or anywhere close to here.

I chose a Pioneer Premier to replace my factory Clarion (Blose) head unit, and it sounds amazing. Of course I also upgraded all 4 speakers and am currently working on a sub enclosure to house 1 JL 10W6 in the area located behind the left rear wheel. I am hoping that this fiberglass enclosure may have the capability of holding a 10W7 in the future, but I am confident it will house a 10W6V2, which I will get once I have the funds...

Take it easy, and enjoy the new head unit...by hte way, I ythink a KRACO (Kmart) would sound better than the factory Bose head unit, but thats my opinion....

Hey you'll hear no argument from me on that subject

I know what you mean about Clarion, seems like they fell off of the planet for a while. Hopefully they'll get back into the swing of things with their new products, I know I couldn't be happier with their new head unit that I bought. BTW nice choice with the DEH-P840MP, I was looking at the P940MP before I decided on the Clarion. Take care.

Default This is the head unit I've been waiting for

Thanks for the pics. I'm looking for a good price as I type. $339 is the best I found so far.

Thumbs up

GSRto350z:

I got mine from www.carmedia1.com for $279, which is a hell of a deal. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

You ordered from carmedia1 and installed yourself I assume? How was working with carmedia1? They web site looks kind of shady.

I love the price though, and that is the head unit that I'm planning to get.

Hey, that's pretty slick. Do you have a pic from the side to show how flush the unit actually fits in the dash. I'm assuming that's a metra dash kit as well, right?

I looked these over the weekend, and I have to say that the unit itself looks even better in person than it does in the pictures

Default Looks good... what about the sound?

Eddie
I have been seriously considering the same head unit for my upgrade. I'm curious about what your going with for the rest of your system. I was thinking of that head unit with Q series MB Quart seperates for the front and coax for the rears. Later a JL 10W6 sub mounted in the rear behind the wheel a la onecoolie. One amp for the fronts and mids (make not decided yet) and dedicated mono bloc JL amp for the sub. I'd be very interested in your ideas and any research or preferences you used to come to your decisions. I like the way the Carion matches the interior and lites.
Good job on the install

Sorry guys, been away from the computer for a while (I hate work =).

Rahtok - I used the Metra dash kit, I don't have any more pictures. I'll have to snap a few when I get a spare moment.

Jason - Check PM, and I agree the unit looks 100% better in person than in pictures.

Ozz - I still haven't finalized my system specs, just got bit by the computer bug again so I'm building a new workstation. But anyway here's a rough guess of what I'm going to use.

Clarion DXZ835mp
Clarion EQ... can't remember the # off hand
Crystal CSC-60s component set (front)
Xtant 404m amp (powering Crystals)
Image Dyamics IDMax 10 (Whenever they come out)
Soundstream Rubicon 702 (powering IDMax)

if you have any questions let me know. =)
