Thanks for the help Spike! I don't know anything about the 06+ setups so your input has been greatly appreciated. Hopefully I will be able to update this thread again soon

hey spike thanks, but let me clarify... i know the cubbies themselves are way different, i meant as far as putting the 03 in my 07.. not sure if you got that part of, size wise and overall swap-ability-ness of it. from what ive seen, the size are almost identical. after that from what ive read the 03's work the best. thanks again!

I didn't actually get the nav to go through the external screen. It just plays videos/music videos while I have nav on the D3. If you want to throw a nav system up on the external screen, buy the Garmin GVN52 (unless a newer model has come out recently). You can then hook the output of the GVN to an input splitter, hook the head units video out to the input splitter, and the input splitters output to the external screen input. Then you could switch between the head unit display and the navigation.

I'm not sure if possible is the word you're looking for here or not. Yes, it's possible. But it would require a lot of time and custom fabrication to make it work. I would just go with an 03 cubby, remove the screws and then you're done. Super easy. Possible - yes, plausible - not so much.

As AUtigers350z mentions, the 2005/2004.5 center console is easily swapped with a 2003 center console.
The advantage of the 2003 center console is its upper/forward cubby design that allows you to simply unscrew the pocket and swap in a 7” monitor without the requirement for any custom fabrication. See this thread by Paul350Z: https://my350z.com/forum/audio-build...tallation.html
As AUtigers350z states, the color and texture are slightly different. That may be objectionable to some since the color and texture are close, but obviously different. It’s sort of like wearing a sport coat and pants with close to the same color. It just doesn’t look right.
The solution is to either match the skins exactly, or go with a contrasting color/texture. Here are some solutions:
If you have a 2004 Z and decide you want to try mounting a 7” LCD screen without swapping the 2004 center console with a 2003 console, do this:
Just some ideas added to AUtigers350z's already great thread.

The solution is to either match the skins exactly, or go with a contrasting color/texture. Here are some solutions:
- “Re-skin” the 2003 center console with the skin from your 2004/2004.5 console. A search here will provide the way to do this if that’s what you want. It’s not that easy to do.
- Wrap your new center console in a totally different finish (leather, carbon fiber, etc.) for a distinct difference (i.e., think of this as the classic look of a navy sport coat with gray pants).
If you have a 2004 Z and decide you want to try mounting a 7” LCD screen without swapping the 2004 center console with a 2003 console, do this:
- Remove the center console
- Cut out the rear pocket.
- “Dremel” flush to the remaining “rough” flange so it’s smooth and accepts the monitor with no gaps.
- Devise a mounting structure (straps, glue, etc.)… whatever works. The CarPC guys do this with great success.
Just some ideas added to AUtigers350z's already great thread.
