New Installed DDX8019 W/LZ702W Touchscreen
Finally got a chance to install the new Kenwood DDX8019 along with the Kenwood LZ702W 7" touchscreen monitor in the cubby. I also hooked up a Kenwood KNAG510 to the 7" touchscreen in the cubby for Navigaton. As you can see in the pics I can also feed the video from the DDX8019 into the 7" touchscreen in the cubby. I also hooked up one of the external switches of the DDX8019 to pop open the rear hatch from the monitor. I basically touch an icon on the monitor and it pops the rear hatch for me. I also installed the Bluetooth adaptor so I can answer and make calls from the DDX8019 touchscreen.

Duke… That is just a great installation. Finally someone’s installed the Kenwood LZ 702W touch screen monitor in the upper/forward cubby.
Questions:
1. Did installing the LZ 702 require much custom work to get it into the cubby?
2. How do you access the LZ 702 buttons along its lower border. I don’t see any buttons in your pics.

The buttons are there, they are just underneath the finishing trim piece. I also pondered on this for quite some time and since it is a touchscreen there is really no need to access the buttons except for a few circumstances.
The first one would be volume. Solution I came up with was turn the volume all the way up, since the Navigation has volume on the touchscreen I can controll it through there.
The other would be switching video sources, since I have the video signal from the DDX8019 going into it. This solution is a little more complex, but let me assure you it works very easily and works like a charm.
Other than that you do not need to access the buttons except when setting up the unit, after that you can putthe trim on.

That's an excellent setup!!!!
I wouldn't expect anything less from you 'Mando! I was wondering when your DDX8019 install was going to happen. I thought maybe just before the West Co. Meet. With your connections, what would I expect! NICE !!! BTW - where did you get that finisher from! My DDX8019 is on it's way. Now I want to do what you did! I was just going to have my IPOD in my cubby and continue to use it as storage. Hope you don't mind emulation! CONGRATS !!!

Duke… Thanks for the reply. I understand now.
For my install, I went with a Power Acoustik PT-700MHR in the upper/forward cubby and a Garvin GVN 52. As you know, there is no touch screen support with this configuration, so it lacks a nice feature you have with your Kenwood setup.
I looked at the Kenwood LZ-702W Monitor with a Kenwood KNA-G510 Navigation Box (your solution), but backed away because I had concerns mounting the Kenwood LZ-702W Monitor and accessing the buttons on the bottom of the screen. As you point out (and what I did with the Power Acoustik), it is basically a “one-time” initial screen setup. After you configure the monitor, you are done. I suppose that if you ever need to make a change requiring access to the Kenwood LZ-702W buttons, you simply pull the cubby’s lower finisher to get at the buttons, make whatever changes you want, and forget about it until (and if) you ever need to make another change.
For navigation, it is hard to beat the Kenwood KNA-G510 Navigation Box. Since it’s a ROM system, it is very fast, easily and instantly updated (maps and application software) on Garmin’s website using a SD reader, and doesn’t rely upon DVD disks or players.
Your Kenwood DDX8019 install in the Double-din space looks perfect, and adding this device to your system (Kenwood LZ-702W Monitor with a Kenwood KNA-G510 Navigation Box) certainly provides a great deal of function and versatility.
You have about the best and most versatile Navigation/HU/DVD display-entertainment solution I’ve seen on this Forum.
Just a great job (and.. I'll bet this thread is going to keep going for awhile yet). --Spike

that's hella nice, i've been thinking of getting that installed in my car too but that seems like so much. how much did it run you in the wallet department? =/
yeah i would be hella worried if my car was in the open and people could see 2 screens ...

But here is something to consider: The Farenheit T-7000MHR (aka; Power Acoustik PT-700MHR and NESA Vision NSM-7005) do not have the “overlayment” layer required for touch screen operation and therefore provide a slightly sharper image. You can see the difference.
Personally I hate the smudges that are an inherent part of using a touch screen. But, that’s just me, and many would argue that point in favor of the convenience and utility provided by touch screens.
