I decided I want a better sound system but I wanted to retain the stock look as much as possible and also not break my bank. This is what I ended up with.
Was it hard to install the tweets in the A-Pillar? Did you use any tutorial that showed you how to take it apart? I will be installing my tweets in a-pillar and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
edit: also, what do you think what is the max size tweeter that could fit in stock a-pillars?
They are good for the system that I have, not a real high end system but still far better than stock. If I wanted to put another 4 channel amp for the components then I would have gotten the type R's but my type S's are just being powered by the HU so its good for what I have.

No is was pretty easy just be careful when you take them out because I chipped off the top corner of it when I was taking it out (you can't tell cause there's a peice of rubber blocking it). It was pretty easy I just read the tutrial on how to take off the door. I wouldn't go too much bigger than the alpine type S (i think 2in) as it is, its bigger than the plastic housing but you can only tell if your looking for it.

can you please check the exact size of the tweeter with the housing? the speakers that i'll be getting, focal 165 k2p have 1 3/4" tn52 tweeter per woofersetc.com

thats not the a pillar, thats the sail
the difference in sound between the a pillar and the sail is drastic, the a-pillar wins hands down
Nice install OP looks great. I bet it sounds very nice as well.
Drill out the holes in the stock speaker grill or search to find the speaker grill fix and you will get a ton more sound out of your midbass. Grats on a nice system .

Ya I read that, drilling out the holes but I didn't have the patience to do it. Any other easy, cheap options?
ha, i was going to post that for you... it really does make a huge difference. i thried it while i still had stock speakers in and i could hear a definite difference

Thanks, I went to Car Toys and a guy there custom made it for me, and for cheaper than the wicked CAS corner box too! Only took him a day and a half to do
no, the grill mod has nothing to do with the tweeter at all
its about removing restrictive material from in front of your mid range/ mid bass
tweeters in the sail panels sound harsh
so where do people put their aftermarket tweeters? seems like the stereo shops would prob just put it where the stock ones were. i don't think they would be willing to drill holes in the sail, or the pillar (which i have no idea what that would look like, is there a diy)? it would seem that no matter what, having tweeters at ear level would just sound harsh. also, if you remove the tweeter grill, wouldn't it sound even MORE harsh, as you could hear it better?
again, how about not going component, and instead using non-component speakers?
Read the multiple threads on a-pillar tweeter set up and there seem to be no clear-cut answers. some like it, others don't, but i think either way it should sound better than stock position, no??
