thanks. i did all the fab paint and install. been doing this kinda stuff for a while.
yeah the seat goes all the way back. the sub only sticks out about an inch past where the stock panel did. i'm 5'6" so it isn't even close to a problem for me.
very nice. now move the amps and throw another sub in the passenger side.

I didn't have a picture of the HU but i will post one later.
the one 8" is plenty for my needs. plus it has the surface area of a 10" which is why i went with the L7. I considered doing 2 8" or 1 10" but airspace was too minimal and most other 8" i found couldnt handle the power the mtx7801 can put out. the L7 is a dual 2ohm model that i have wires in series for a 4 ohm load. the amp puts out around 500RMS @ 4 ohms which is what the sub can handle. 500 rms @ 4 ohms is perfect for sound quality and longevity of the amp.
If I moved the amps to put in another sub I would have to put the amps in the hatch and that is what i was trying to avoid doing with this system. i have had as much as 4 12" and three large amps in a vehicle before and i have outgrown that amount of thump. I am more into sound quality now.
i designed the box using BassBox 6 Pro taking into consideration the thiele-small parameter of the sub. the box is a little over 1.25 cubic feet and is tuned to 38 Hz which was a hapy medium between sound quality and high output. here is the normalized amplitude response for the box. it is pretty much the perfect amount of air space for this application. 8"s don't need much airspace. the only drawback is the response around ~20-25 Hz, but my crossover helped me bring that area up. the curve is about as flat as i could get it between 35 and 100 Hz, for the best sound quality.
yeah bassbox pro is my favorite. i have used it over the years to design spl competition systems in my and others vehicles. it is usually right on with my termlab sound meter RTA as to where the peak spl is achieved, but this is the first system i have built for myself that is geared towards sound quality. i still need to get a different eq for some fine tuning.
Looks good, should of painted the enclosure black so it wouldn't stand out so much imo. Never liked kicker subwoofers but nice install!
yeah i was originally gonna wrap it in black vinyl, but it was too much black and didnt look that good. i took off the vinyl and matched the silver of the cars color. it also matches all the trim in the car, like the air vents and shifter trim bezel and gauge bezel. Looking at the inside of the car as a whole it actually blends in very good with all the silver trim in the car.
i haven't been a fan of kicker subs for a while, but this was about the best way to get as much bass as possible in that space. there are very few 8" subs that can handle 400 RMS, like this kicker L7 can. it also has the surface area of a 10" round sub.
what is the dimension of the amp? I got a Infinity Reference 5350 and wasn't sure if it will fit into the glove box. The dimension of it is as follow: (L x W x H = 16-9/16" x 9" x 2-11/16").
Your amp looks pretty big too so I was wondering if mine would fit too. Any issue with the heat from amp? I read that amp need proper air flow circulation so it wont overheat and with the glove box close, it can be a big issue.
my sub amp is 20-11/16" L x 9-5/8" W x 2-1/2" H. it is a monster. i dont actually have them mounted in the glovebox. i removed the glovebox and made an amprack that mounts to the car in the places the glovebox mounted. this gives plenty of room from side to side.
as far as heat buildup, the openning is huge once you take the glovebox out. i havent had any problem with it getting too hot. plus i am running the amp at 4 ohms which doesn't produce that much heat.
