Can someone explain the appeal of the start/stop pushbutton? I mean sure it's cool but don't you still need to insert the key into the ignition and turn till it's at acc? Maybe it's just me but i don't understand why you wouldn't want to just turn it that last quarter and be done with it.

Not meaning to be an *** but I would only really see it as being an awesome feature if you didn't have to insert your keys like the bmw's system.

As I've stated from early on: From a logical point of view, yeah, it's pretty much "useless" as many have already pointed out. This is only for the coolness factor and I took it on as a personal challenge. It's been more of a challenge, both mentally and out-of pocket, than I ever imagined - still I press on because of the overwhelming encouragement from most.

*sigh*....NO, no working revised update yet. I've recently gotten a job so I don't have the same uniterrupted time to spend on this that I had when I dreamed up the prototype. I think it'll be worth the wait though. The revised version will have fewer relays as well as some enhanced stop/start functionality. I will have something soon - thanks for your patience.

unfortunately I never got to install the prototype I bought from Greg so now I am selling it.

I have to say this is a quality piece that you created and the workmanship is first class all the way.

It would be cool if you could somehow flash the unit with the code from the keyfob or the key itself somehow, then maybe you could find a way to start the car w/o key. i dunno how that'd work w/ security and all that tho.

Ok, I read the ENTIRE 10 page thread and I may have missed this so please take it easy on the new guy if so. I just bought our 350Z a couple months back after 6 years of driving two different Corvettes. The last 2 and half years was a 2005 C6 Corvette. If you're not familiar with them, they have the keyless ignition. The ONE thing I miss about that car was dropping the FOB in my pocket, jumping in and hitting the button and going.

That being said, my question is this: We have a 5AT 350Z, so if I did this mod, I understand I'd still have to insert the key to be read by the computer, but would I still have to turn it, etc to release the shift lock on the auto trans, or is that taken care of with a relay/programming in this add-on unit?

I know it's a fine distinction to make (though I have my reasons lol) but if I could just slip the key in the ignition slot and hit the button after this mod, put me down for one. My wife Violet will LOVE it.

Thanks.

You still need to turn the key to disable the mechanical wheel lock.

My auto Z doesn't have a mechanical steering wheel lock. But from your answer I'd infer that the same would apply for the tranny lock. Thanks.

By the way, I'm still pretty sold on this mod for nothing more than the "cool factor". lol Hey, I'm easily amused, what can I say?

Thanks.

After you shut the car off you can still turn the wheel freely? My G35 has a locking steering wheel (you have to actually turn it to lock it) and I read somewhere that the Z does as well.

clarkemtp,
are you sure you don't have the steering wheel lock?
I'm pretty sure all the cars have it

all new cars should have a steering wheel lock, try turning the steering wheel with no key in the ignition.

I'm pretty sure almost all cars made in the past 20 years have steering wheel locks. It was one of the strongest forms of OEM security before immobilizers became popular.
