Default 2007 Altima engine Start/Stop button project

Well I like the S2K start button but decided why not keep my 350Z "all Nissan"? On a whim, I decided to buy the 2007 Altima engine Start/Stop button assembly, part number 25150-JA00A. It lists for about $30.00 and I got it cheaper than that at my local dealer 'cause they like me . I disassembled the switch to see what pins were for the switch contacts and various LED's. I can use a similar set-up as the S2K switch as far as the relay, but since the button clearly says it'll not only START but STOP the engine, this throws a little more R&D into the mix. I'm going to have the LOCK LED wired to the car's factory anti-theft LED on the dash so that it'll flash in sync with it. The ACC and ON LED's will be wired to light according to ignition key position, of course. The backlighting of the button and "ENGINE" underneath the button will be tied into the HAZARD button backlighting LED so that it'll brighten/dim with the rest of the dash lights. I'm going to try and get it wired up this weekend. As far as placement, well with the large chrome trim ring, real estate 's pretty tight on the console of my '06 6MT so that's why I chose this particular location. I did not test fit the console back down into place to check for clearance yet but I know it's going to a little tight as far as depth of the switch assembly (although it doesn't appear as deep as the S2K switch).
Stay tuned.......

How much would it cost to make it exactly like the altimas where you sit inside the car with the keys and you can turn the car on.

Interesting. I'd like to see if you can get the "stop" feature to fuction. Still a bit elaborate, IMO for a setup where you still have to use the key. At least the S2K and otehr buttons like it just have the one function, like a race car start button. Looks good where you have it mounted, though. Good luck with it.

Have you tested the LEDs? I have a feeling it's not going to be as simple to wire it up as you think. With only 5 pins, I'm not sure each LED has it's own lead; they may be controlled by a circuit board in the unit.

Well I really do like boobies.

I'll look into this, most likely it won't work because nissan has the immobilizer in the key for the ECU.

I've bench tested the LED's and there are eight pins, not five. I *think* I can get the STOP function to work; if not, oh well.

by putting the button there, wouldn't it be pretty easy to accidentally press the stop button while driving?

Oh, ok; cool. I couldn't immediately see the other pins in the pic. Should be fairly straightforward, then, on the lighting; not sure about the STOP feature.

Not really; the button has a pretty hard tactile feel to it and actually requires some effort to push it down.

It would be nice to integrate the antenna for the altima keyfob so you can eliminate the key switch all together

Yeah, it would be nice but that's beyond the scope of my intentions (or abilities) with this set-up; it's more for just the cool factor and because no one else has done it before.
