Good deal, it's bothering the **** out of me and i've been just squeezing and and hearing it kinda crackle and i'm good for like 15 minutes but then it starts up . . . .frustratin as hell, THANK YOU . . . .this post is FTW

This only fixes minor rattle.. correct? I'm debating of whether to do this or not since my problem is that my mirror completely shakes down! I mean, one second I'm looking at the rear windo and next I'm looking at my passenger! Lol..

Same here what is the idea of stopping the rattle if the mirror is facing down all the time.


My bass is just too hard to stop it from turning away from my rear view.

Any others ideas out there that can stop it from moving completely.

Oh my gosh I think this may have just saved me from going insane.
My boy and I both have z's and his doesnt do this and mine does and this is seriously the most annoying rattle i have ever heard in a car. I drive holding my mirror - no joke. I'm so excited to do this when I get home!

Glad some others can use the info.

And yes, this is only going to help mirror rattles with the homelink mirror. The source of the rattles for my mirror was the homelink buttons.

For nearly 2 years I've been dealing with this stupid vibration noise. I finally googled the issue and found this DIY; thank you so much OP. The sound is now GONE!!!!!

I can finally enjoy driving my car.

When you put the 5 little ***** behind the home link buttons, are they touching the back of the buttons? i don't see how these LITTLE ***** will stop the rattle.
For those of you who used silicon instead of the little *****, did you seal up the whole back of the buttons edges?

I certainly have the wire cover rattle, not sure about the mirror yet. Nissan say to use adhesive felt, i wonder if i can pick some up from somewhere?

Also, when opening the mirror you can use the corner of a credit card at an angle to pry in the crack and snap open the clips, super easy and no scratches.

this is a life saver, just picked up my z a few weeks back and the homelink mirror was going to get tossed out the window if there was not a fix for this i too was doing the squeeze, light smack thing to just have it start again. this will be done before my next cruise with her. thanks op

Awesome thread! It gave me the know-how to open up my auto-dim mirror and fix the maddening rattles / vibration!!

At first, I put dynamat around the permiter of the back of the mirror and it didn't work. Then I put dynamat on one side of the back of the plastic back, the vibrations were still there, just lower in tone #@$&%.

Then I put dynamat on 2 sides of the jack where the wires plug in. I think it was rattling against the rear plastic backer. Also did both sides of the rear backer thing AND put bandaids on the post things that the electronic panels rest on. That was all places plastic touched plastic and presented an opportunity for vibration. If that didn't work, I would be stumped what else could possibly be vibrating. BUT IT WORKED!!! I test drove it this morning at 51°F and no vibrations!! The drive is so peaceful now.
