I went to a local Ace Hardware store. They didn't charge me.

Years ago before I had my Z, I did the same with my old Mazda. Bought a key online and brought it to a Home Depot and they cut it for free.

WTF... I don't get anything for free.

I'll try the local Ace, HD, and Lowe's if and when I do this again, I guess. Thanks.

Just finished doing mine and it was a PITA getting the chip out. Especially since it is my only key.... But I got it out with just a slight scratch in it. But it all works well.

Thanks for the help. Now just to get the range a bit better.

Gonna order a blank key from ebay as well. Ive read theres a way to program the key yourself using the ignition.
BAD MOVE!!!!

the chip will NOT hold the programming and you will end up having to reprogram it once every week or less...

DO NOT BUY THE FOB THAT COME WITH THE TRANSPONDER CHIP. Instead, use one from the key!!

I think he is thinking of the remote programming. You can easily do that yourself. The transponder is a different story.

BTW I got my cut at Home Depot for $0. He just had to find the right key plate. His first try was it. Key plate A.

The reader said my key was a Philips chip that was encrypted. Just interesting.

Also I tired to extend the range but it seemed to be worse. I did what this video did (without soldering for testing). I hope I can find something to make it further.

Im talking about buying a blank key, not the keyfob case that comes with a transponder chip. Should i be worried about the blank keys?

I bought my case from the guy on g35driver.

Just a FYI for some people. I use to have a switchblade key for my Tiburon V6 that I bought from shark racing, which ran me roughly 60.00. A year later the switchblade mechanism quit working. Pushing the button didn't even make it flinch. May not happen to everyone but when it does it sucks having to pick the key part out with your fingers or a pen.

EDIT:

Also, you better trust your local Home Depot guys. Bought a blank Tib key a few months ago and took it to my local Home Depot (Buford, GA) and they f'd it up and all they could say was sorry and that they'll carve me a key of their brand ($.50 blank with no chip). Factory blanks typically aren't cheap. Only places i've had good experiences with was Ace Hardware and whatever dealership your car belongs to.

As far as the key not coming out, you probably can take it out and regresse it and check the spring.

I thought about that when they were cutting my key at home depot, what happens if they mess it up.... good thing they didn't. I wouldn't of been too happy.

Btw my last car was a tiburon v6. It was a fun car.

We wouldn't have to pick the key apart with our fingers since there are 3 screws holding the fob together. Just need a tiny screwdrivers.

and +1 to ACE HARDWARE. Everyone should go there to get it cut instead of Home Depot. Their cutting method is different and require no key plate or whatever default slot...

I had the three button first time around and switched to four. All you cut for the three button is the rubber keys. The circuit board fits.

I'm very pleased with the quality, the actual process was pretty easy. What the pictures might not show is the rubberized coating, feels kinda like those soft silicon covers for ipods and cellphones.

Dang you got a much nicer key fob then mine. The texture on mine is just like.. regular plastic. Hope the rubberized coating is better than the 2006 coats for the interior, cuz those get scratched up really easily

I don't understand you already have the case, isn't that also the blank key?

Well like ICE said the reprogramming doesn't really work.

is there a reason the auctions on ebay specify through 2005 models? Looking at the key fobs from an 07 and an 05, I didn't see much difference.
