DIY: 06+ Base with Cruise Control using Uprev + OEM Parts
So its been discussed a few times how base model 06+ Zs have the same wiring harnesses with connectors, and ECU hardware needed for the cruise control models (enthusiast & touring). The base ECU simply doesn't have the cruise control PID feedback programming in it's code lines.
E30cabrio has recently confirmed getting this working by adding the 2 required switches on the clutch and brake pedals (about $60 new), installing the steering wheel buttons panels ($65 new), and reflashing the ECU (with Uprev $ varying) to a modified enthusiast or touring's ECU software.
Vince@RTtuning has been helping me with Etuning the past few weeks and has agreed to move my tune to a cruise control enabled ROM. I should have this ROM tomorrow (Monday) and just went thru installing the required buttons / switches (took me about 45 mins).
Below are photos i snapped of the brake pedal and clutch pedal where the switches go.
(In the upper left you can see the brown-brake and blue-clutch connectors for the missing switches)
(Again upper left you can see the clutch pedal upper travel stop bolt, you remove this and replace with clutch switch that also doubles as pedal stop)
(Upper left again, you can see the clutch switch in place)
(
I have also replaced the steering wheel panels with used junkyard sourced units. I would suggest looking at other's DIYs for removing the steering wheel as its very easy. The button panels simply connect to the existing female connecting on the slip ring behind the airbag
Hopefully tomorrow I can update and report I have it all working

Everything else you might possibly need is here:

Here is the brake switch. When the brake is off it is pushed, closing the circuit. When you hit the brake it releases opening the circuit turning cruise off. The clutch is the same deal.
In the upper left corner where your clutch pedal cuts off there is a screw hole. put the clutch switch there.

It WORKS!!!!!!!
Vince@RTtuning got me the new ROM just before i left work, flashed in the parking lot and used cruise all the way home.
So my base 07 had an EV10A ECU part #, he provided me a modified EV12A ROM that had my latest tune.
So if your a base car and already have Uprev, its about $125 in parts from courtesyparts.com, 45 - 60 mins work, and a new cruise enabled ROM file.
Not too bad in my opinion.

Right now I don't have the tuning package so i've only got one tune. I do hope that the lighted gauge cluster works and/or you can open up the cluster and solder in your own LEDs.

I agree, worth it at 3x the price!!!
I can set cruise well above legal limits.

I'm not 100% sure how the locked ROMs work, if another tuner besides GTM can open the file then maybe you should contact Vince.
The ROM he provided me is not locked, i simply don't have the tuner package yet.
But the fact that it refuses to work above 50 mph is very odd.
I'm suspecting that the EV12A ROM you have is still looking for the yaw sensor for the traction control. If the cruise control LEDs arn't on the circuit board then i bet the TCS arn't either, so you wouldn't know if its messing with the cruise.

I opened my cluster to decide if I wanted to solder the leds in. None of the leds that corresponded to options my car does not have were there. I found a guy willing to solder them in for me in So Cal and it is out for delivery as I type. I will take pictures when I get it back, hopefully next week.
On another note, I asked for two leds to try soldering onto the cluster I got hoping they were there so I may have a modded cluster from an 07 for sale.

Great write up Ian and good work E30cabrio, guys have been kicking this around for a while hoping it would work but never really dove into it. Ian let me know when you need to upgrade to a tuner version. In the meantime I can send you a ROM with antitheft and a 91 octane map as well. Also for you other guys I could probably get a low price together to help you convert none CC ROMs to Cruise enabled ROMs
