Default US sway bars

Will Nismo sways from US fit our cars?
Is it a universal Japanese product or is it made in the States?

Thanks

Yes they will fit as does the Nismo S-Tune suspension from the US, I checked with Jason at Performance Nissan in CA. I'm ordering the full kit sways + suspension from japanparts.com, there is little difference in the total cost ie shipping + parts. It works out around $2690.00 Aus from the US and $ 2730.00 from Japan plus customs and GST, I was also quoted $3900 Aus from a Nismo dealer here in Melbourne, so make your choice but I can highly recommend japanparts.com I've used them in the past and at the moment the aussie dollar is not to bad against the Yen.

Thanks for clarifying that. Its a great help to me as I have ordered sways already and just wanted to be 100% sure.
I know headers are different for RHD cars so didn't want to end up with something I couldnt use.
Interesting to see your choice of full nismo suspension.
I'm looking at fitting the Tein with EDFC along with my sways, which is hopefully a good combo.

Does Nismo actually MANUFACTURE anything - or do they just rebadge stuff?

If they just rebadge as I suspect - ie Nismo Rays, Why don't we just go to the source and save a pot?

I think they only rebadge for some things where its more viable to use someone else's product instead of creating it?

McChapman,
Where did you get your wheels and how much?
How much is the freight?
I've been thru the exercise and the only response other than a blank stare was from japanparts - and they are on 3 months backorder and would not give any info about freight or anything else.
Did you order the nots and adapter?
Which center did you go for?
At this stage I've put it onto the backburner as too bloody 'ard.
Be interested in your experiences.
Couldn't see much change out of $4g + freight.
Found something interesting on the US forum - "not recomended for 17" wheels" ? ? ?

PERMAFROST

ps RICHIE - the spacers look FAT! And much to my surprise, affect the handling!

Hello,

Yeah it wasn’t too easy finding a place that could get Rays Engineering Wheels.

I found 2 places who could get them one in WA and one in VIC, the WA guys wanted an extra $680 per wheel! and the VIC guys price was good cause it worked out cheaper to go through these guys than do it myself. So they ordered them to be MADE in Japan. Paul said they would take about 4-6 weeks to make them and two weeks to get here. I dont have my lisence at the moment so it worked out well. I should get the wheels at the same time I get my lisence back.
Paul Donnelan - Donnelans Wheels & Tires - 03 9898 9591

Your looking at AU$980 per wheel which includes GST, Freight, and Duty. Tyres for these babies are expensive as well if your buying good wheels you should get good tyres($680 per tyre.) And centre caps are $3-400.

I've had cheap wheels before and wouldnt do that again, they have to be lite to keep unsprung weight down, 19" wheels would normally weigh a ton and slow you down alot. This way you can look like sex and go hard.

I couldn’t find that post?

I didnt buy the nuts or the adaptor.

I bought the genuine centre caps.

Hope this helps.
Murray

For the sizes I wanted I was extremly limited in tyre choice. I didnt want one mm below 255 front and 275 rear, but managed to get 255 and 285. If your willing to go down some sizes then you can get S03s for ~400 each. I got Continentals which were cheaper than the Pirellis by about 150 each. Continentals are supposed to be standard Porsche attire.

You might also like to try Chris Neale at Wheel Revolution in Brisbane. He is a small specialist importer and got me 19" GT-7's for about $1000 or $1100 per rim in the middle of last year when the Aus$ was much weaker. The centre caps were $200 for the four.

The contact number is 07 3209 2833.

Murray, what tyres are you getting?

See above post, Continental ContactSport - 19X255 & 19X285

What size wheels did you get 19X8.5 and 19X9.5?

And what size tyres are you using?

Murray, yes have 19x8.5 and 9.5 with 245/35 and 275/35 SO3's. I stuck with the exact upgrade size on the tyres but there still seems to be plenty of room for more rubber. Will be keen to hear if you have any scrubbing with the slightly bigger rubber, but doubt you will.

BTW never really considered 255/285 combo as 245/275 seemed to be the consensus coming out of the US at the time, but just checked the size conversion and didn't realise there is really nothing in it as far as diameter goes.

All the kits you can get for the 350z at the moment use 255 and 295. So I will have no problems with mine. I did some research about this before I choose what size I would go for, It would be a bit useless if they didnt fit.

Brett,

How do you like the S-Tune suspension? What are your impresssions? Im getting that fitted when I get the wheels done and would love to get your take on them.

Do the Volk 19's + lowering from the suspension work perfectly?

Japan parts seems to be able to do them for ~2000 delivered(awaiting confirmation email), Perfect run says 2550 delivered. How much and where did you get yours?

Thanks
Murray

Is that quote of japanparts with the sway bars or just suspension. I was quoted $2773 JP & $3700 PR.

Thanks

Hello,

PR said $2000 for the coilovers and $550 for shipping. This was on Saturday 17 Jan 2004.

Im waiting to hear from Japan parts and this is just the coliovers not the sways. But on their site it says ~$1588 for the coilovers and if the same shipping applys then it sould be around $2100.

UPDATE! Forgot about Duty, + GST so should be the same as PR.

Thanks
Murray

Murray, just sent you a reply pm but yes the Volks and Nismo work very well. However the Nismo lowers the car very little and certainly no where near as much as the Eibach springs for example. If you want a really lowered car then the Nismo is not for you.

Having said that the Nismo is very good and is just on the limit of still being able to be properly aligned - goes without saying to have the alignment done by someone good after fitting.

I have the full springs and shocks + sways. I ordered it all through the dealer at time of purchase of the car around mid 2003 and fitted it cost a bit over $4K - however I paid a premium for getting it supplied and fitted by dealer and Aus$ was much weaker then.

Brett.
