Oil Consumpion
Changed my oil yesterday, it's coming up to the 30,000k's service and thought I would do it myself, I'm not shure I trust the Nissan dealer to put in what I pay for ie: Mobil 1. I checked with them on doing myself, no problem sir was the answer which makes me happier, so yesterday I drained the oil replaced the filter genuine Nissan and added the 4.7litres of oil, I then placed the old into the container the new oil came in, holy sh#t only just over 2 litres came out of the engine that means its used 2.5 litres in approx 10000k's. My question is this normal, I've ever had a car use this much oil before and on searching the US forums there are cases of 2 to 3qtrs being use in as little as 3000 miles and needed an engine replacement from Nissan. I'm not shure how much oil was being used before this as the dealer changed it at 5000, 10000 and 20000k's it may be get worse, that dam dip stick is so dam stupid the oil seem to get all over it as you take it out! Anyway some feedback as to how much oil your car is using would be great and just to add, my car is not smoking or leaking any oil, go figure?

Hmmm cant really help you there as I haven't changed oil myself yet.
It does seem like a fair amount was used, but think about whether the Nissan apprentice actually put in the right amount of oil to start with.
I would only suggest to check levels after another 5k and see what you find.

IMO it's not normal for any new car. I did 5000km oil changes and always got at least 4.5l out. BTW I found that while the manual says 4.7l for a fill it was reading low with that amount so I always put in the whole 5l.

OK 15 viewed only 2 replied - what's the average oil useage for the VQ35 motor, apsilon gets less than 200mls for 5000k's anyone else checked theirs lately?

Actually it can be as much as 500mls. I put in 5l each change, not 4.7 I suppose it could be even a little more but not much. It's not as though I've tried to accurately measure it, just pour it into the old bottle.
EDIT: I should add mine only had a little over 12,000km on it and so I'd only changed the oil 3 times. Perhaps they increase rapidly with more km?

geeee.... this is scary David!!! Thanks for telling us this and I will try to keep my eyes on this too! still have around 3.5K km+ to my 20K km service... I will ask the dealer to check this too!

Thanks for the replies guys I think 2.5litres for 9500k's is a little excessive have reported it to Nissan dealer ( Gary Rogers) today, they've ask me to keep a check on it and if it continues they'll do a 1000k's oil comsumpion test.
So please check your oil levels guys don't leave it till service time and if I had not change it myself this time would the dealer have told me?

Bloody Hell - I pulled out me thingo to check - can't find the bloody hole!!!!!
It was down to 1/2 way between the two marks - 38000k - ie 8000k since changed.
Only ever had Mobil 1 in.

David, I would find it very hard to believe that a new car would go through so much oil. Especially if there is no evidence of leaking or other tell tale signs like oily tips (oh la la).
I think a more plausable reason would be that the **** who changed your oil last time didnt put enough in!

Bit scary this.
It can be something that happens with low friction engines however, although my experience has been that it tends to happen at much lower kilometres.
I worked for a car company whose cars had low friction engines and we had a few that ran virtually dry between 5,000 and 10,000 kms.
We ended up with a company policy of weekly checks - must admit that its not something that I look at often enough.
Gotta go - off to the garage to get the bonnet up!

Sorry its not in metric, but I burn about 1qt/1000 miles. I burned less before the supercharger, but it was still significant. The nissan dealer said my burn is considered normal by nissan usa, most of it is in blowby through the pcv system.

Wow that works out at .94litres of oil per 1600km's and they say thats acceptable, do you have any idea what was it before you had the SC fitted.

Not for service.
But when I had my diff changed over, they loaned me a car at "no charge" on two occassions out of four that I left my car with them.
I believe they loaned me the car because I got d!cked around by Nissan, trying to blame the diff issue on tyre feathering!
Not sure if they would have been so generous if the diff was changed over on the first visit.
It was a 4 cylinder Astra loaner and well appreciated by me as it enable me to get to work.
As for a loaner 350Z maybe in 2015!

Every time I've asked for a loaner I've got one. Im not a great fan of them though as the excess, should something go wrong, is $2000.
On a side note, I had my car in yesterday to get the seat fixed and the FARKS have put a 6 inch long gouge in my steeting wheel!
As Im sure you could imagine I wasnt very impressed, the worst thing is that they never say anything until you bring it up. WTF, do they think Im not going to notice.
With all that being said there has never been any dramas getting anything fixed. Its just the fact that they damaged it.

Arseholes don't tell you about the damage they caused, hoping you won't notice and drive out of the dealership. They they can reject liabilty and argue that you caused the damage previously or after you collected the vehicle, as you did not alert them to the damage while the car was at the dealership.
I'm very paranoid about my car being damaged while at the dealer and always inspect the exterior and interior for marks / scratches, prior to turning the key over to leave the dealership. I must look very odd to others when I'm checking out my own car.
Did they tell you they'd fix it? If it's just the platic cover that goes over the airbag, then that should be fairly cheap for the dealer to replace.

Yeah, it was just the plastic bit with the Z on it as well as the silver "highlight" on the side and the middle cruise control button.
Strangely I didnt even notice until I was on my way back to work after lunch and I picked the car up yesterday arvo.
Ill be farked if I will let anyone ever reject liablity simply because I didint notice it at the dealership.
There has never been a problem with them fixing anything they have damaged. There have been 1 or 2 little things.
I suppose it's one of the benefits of having a good rapport with the dealership and the service department, (I even dropped in a case of Tooheys at Xmas), it all helps I suppose.
