Allowable wheel/tyre upgrades
Someone sometime very kindly posted RTA allowable upsizing and wheel track details that were allowable.
Seems our venerable (venerial? or sumpin') housecleaner has spring cleaned it out 'caus I can't find them.
Anybody help, please.

Nope. Sort of planning on waiting to see if the next RX7 materialises and the next MX-5 and who knows what else. Been too busy with the house to give it any thought anyway.

RTA says that your tyres must be the same or higher load rating that the original tyres provided by the manufacturer.
For my Touring that's 94 front and 96 rear.
However, yesterday, I read the sticker (under the centre cabin lid) and it said must not have a load index less than 84 front and 85 rear - christ I'm confused.
I guess I'll abide by RTA and not Nissan.

The last time I checked, you're allowed to go 25mm wider before requiring engineering certification. That's based on the biggest wheels available from the manufacturer for your car.
I got a bit confused on the wording, but my interpretation is that the diameter is not limited, only the width.
Anyway, regardless of if you have a Touring or Track, that'd be 9" (since the Rays wheels are a factory option for both).

Rules seem to vary from State to State.
In Qld there is absolutely no restriction on rim size. All requirements relate to tyre size onlywhich are as follows:-
- The tread width can be up to 1.3 x standard fitting. This is very generous as rear tyres (standard 245x17 or 18) can go up to 318.5, if you can get them to fit!!!
- Tyre diameter cannot vary by more than 15mm from standard fit.
- There is a range of tread widths for various rim sizes.
One other thing, wheel offset may not increase (ie reduce track width) by even 1mm, but may decrease by 13mm (ie increase track width by 26mm).
It's amazing how regs differ between States. Makes relocating interesting!
