So who are you insured with?
Hello all!
As a driving instructor, I am always introduced to people who track their street cars. And because my full time job is in the insurance field, I am always asked about coverage on the track. Soooooo, I have decided to do doing some research for an article. The article is directed at Z owners (by it will apply to many others) who track their daily drivers, or at least their non-dedicated race cars, and I am trying to get a feel for market share. I have approached so carriers for their information on this topic, but I want to cover as many as possible. So please respond if you take your weekend fun car or daily driver to the track. I only need the name of the Insurance Company that issued the policy, not who your agent or representative is. Thanks for your help....it will only benefit everyone in the long run. |

Non-specialty insurance companies do not provide coverage when racing.
So most Z owners that track their car are pretty much driving at their own risk.

I've been w/State Farm for many moons now.
But like the person above stated, I thought we were "on our own" if we tracked the cars? In other words my insurance wouldn't cover any damage caused at a track as it would caused in the streets?

if ya do a quick search under the roadrace forum you will find this insurance topic has been covered in depth a couple times that i know of. also, i got an email last night about a company that is offering track day insurance for your car. i didn't get to the details but nice to see that a company is FINALLY stepping up.
i used to track my daily driver and worried about putting it into a tire wall constantly. my ins. is through allstate, but they wouldn't cover me at the track, neither would Geico who i just switched from.

Thanks Bill! I did a search but I can't find this particular info. I am not trying to see someone elses opinion, I am just looking for the names of who the group insures with so I can do my own research for an article that may be published and will have my name on it. Rule one of any factual article is know the facts that you are stating to be true for yourself.
Thanks for the input and if you find the name of the company that is offering coverage for your car for a track day, please let me know so I can speak with them for the article. |

Great! Keep them coming.
Oh, and no commentary please. I don't want to bias anyone regarding one insurance company or another. Besides, this is not a commercial for any single carrier. So just the company name, please. |

Thanks for making my point...

JZurita's response is exactly what I was expecting and it only took a couple posting to get it. You see, most people are uninformed and pass their opinion as fact. Or, their insurance company did not cover something, so they assume all companies don't. Well, you know what happens when you assume something...You make and ass out of u & me (ass-u-me). Now I am not ragging on JZurita, I am pointing out that this is common and I blame the insurance industry for not informing the public. That is the whole purpose of my research and publishing what I find. |

DVflyer, I know exactly what you are saying and have seen it myself. However, I have filed many Felony reports with the Department of Insurnace on that exact claim since insurance fraud is a Felony in CA. The sad part is that on a hand full of them, they would have had some coverage if they had not lied about the entire event. Their deductible is all they would have been out. That being said, not everyone gets caught....but I know a bunch of people who have. Let's just stick to the companies for the purposes of this posting. You can post a "How to commit insurance fraud" thread once I'm done.

I think it depends on the wording of the policy. Some poilcy stated that it wont cover "if you involve in a competition or time trial or any kind of illegal street racing". But if you were only driving the car in a track during a track day, technically you are not in a competition or time trial racing. You can argue that with your insurance company and see if you can get coverage for that.
