I am considering a set of Rival S tires. OPR is a big problem at nationals and BFG worked on that problem last year when they rented the site right after last year's nationals.

I'm at the point of really needing to raise my limiter, shifting into 3rd or just riding the rev limiter has gotten me by, but definitely hurts my times.

I plan to bump mine to 7000, like you. Any issues, regrets, etc.
I searched and found plenty of discussions, but it was hard to tell who actually had knowledge, experience and who was just talking.

It's helpful on certain courses if you have the power to pull to that 7k mark. (I don't know if a tune alone will provide the needed power to make the extra RPM's useful.)

The other question is one of wear and tear. So, far so good, but the tuner "only" went to 7K because I track the car regularly and he thought another 500 RPM's would be too much for the motor over time.

How was FAST Mike? Let me know next time you go there.

Nice long track for a boosted car

They're a great group to run with.

The only catch is the site requires everyone to register online a week before the event. No "walk-ups" and no late registrations. (The airport has to run a security check on everyone who will be on the site.)

Good driving.

What's the local class or STU competition like in your region?

This club had one of their instructors in an STi on the new Rival S's. Watching some of his runs, I was surprised I got under his times on my RS3's. (His runs looked good) I ended up FTD for this particular event.

Locally, my club has a handful of national-level drivers in other classes. I just use the PAX to compare. After switching to the 700lb springs, I was able to get ahead of the STX times (Like I'm supposed to be)...then they switched fromRS3's to RE71's and that was the end of that. lol

I just ordered some RE71R's for nationals, but they are currently out of stock. -Same goes for the Rival S's. Tire rack estimates they will have more RE71's in the middle of August....We shall see.

My shipment of AWESOME arrived today!
RE71 275/35 18. Heat-cycled and shaved a bit.

After stressing over building a trailer to drag the tires up to Nationals, I decided to just see if I could fit them INSIDE the Z (Test fit with my RS3's)....

The hatch and both doors close with them in there too:

This should be an interesting road trip.

I will still be driving home from Nationals on the Saturday of our September event. I will probably be there Sunday, but if I drive, it will be on the RS3's. I want the RE71's to still be fresh for the State Championship and Hopefully still sticky for next years Dixie event.

-Just wanted to make sure the mold release was off, so I just took them down to 6/32".

Nationals will be the first time running this tire on my car so I will really need some test & tune time.

Ooh, I want me some RE-71Rs, too..

That's how I fit my wheels in my Z, too, sort of. I put wheel 3 and 4 together instead of sandwiching the seat in between them by pulling the seat a bit forward and reclining the back all the way.

I might try that. I thought they would stay put better with the seat back between them.

Oh, and I registered today!

STU is up to 33 drivers.

I really wish sticky 17's came in 275 and 285 widths.

I mounted some "real" DD tires on my old 17" SSR's for the trip and my car picked up like 15HP! (Butt dyno)

This is the first time I have had the 17's on the car since I got the bolt-ons and tune. The car has never been faster in a straight line than it is now. If i could get sticky tires in 285 widths I would probably sell both sets of 18" wheels and go back to 17's.

^ Agreed. My daily wheels are 17" RPF1s and they're so light even with tires.

Soo partly because of this build I'm picking up a 03 Z at the end of the week and doing a STU car The car already has quite a bit of mods, basically need suspension(copying Z1's setup from proparts), a LSD, and wheels/tires. After those mods I'm 95% there with STU. Another upside is that I'm keeping my miata too. I'll make a thread at some point.

I hope to make a few national events here on the east coast next season. Hope to catch some of you guys out there!

^ Start your own build thread when you get it! I like seeing other Zs compete and reading about their progress.
