Default How to Repair broken Navigation Door

ok well many of you might experience the nav door being stuck or might not want to open, this being because the navigation gears are cheap plastic and easily broken. So with alot of sliding up and down ,the little plastic tooth tend to break off and get stuck between other teeth. I dont know why nissan doesnt use aluminum or copper to make these instead chose plastic.

This might not be a permanent fix because it will just continue to break off every few months. eventually enough gear will be gone for it not to roll smoothly.

Its not hard at all... theres really nothing to fix just open it up and remove the broken piece. Should not take more than an hour to remove the center console and do what you got to do and reinstall.

This might fix your problem this might not. but do it at your own risk.

1. Remove the center Console.
http://liljerk.morpheus.net/350Z/dash_removal/
These instruction isnt for a console with navigation but its pretty much the same but where the keypad is for the navigation, take a flathead and a creditcard and lift the keypad up with the flathead and take a creditcard to slide through the keypad til it lifts up. make sure you properly protect the surrounding area or it will scratch the he11 out of your dash. after that unplug the connector. i dont remember but i think there is 2 more screws holding the dash in that hold that use to hold the keypad. look up the instructions for removing the dash if you dont know how to .

2. Remove the 4 screws that is holding the navigation door assembly to the console.

3. Remove the 4 screws holding the motor mount.

4. take a small screwdriver that have a skinny shaft or anything small enough to stick it under the circle gear and lift it up.Maybe you can remove it by hand but you might have to turn the white gear around to get the black one out. You need to remove this gear in order to slide your door up and down manually.

5. ok your door should be able to move freely up now, but you might have to yank on it a little bit since there is a piece of plastic that needs to be removed. once it is pulled up check the middle part that have that gear line to make sure there is no piece of cracked pastic stuck between it. If you find something like this then remove it.

6. Sometime the circle gear that belong to the motor also have plastic piece sticking to it too so just remove whatever that dont belong there and hopefully that would fix the problem

this was what was stuck on the gear. a tooth of the gear

ok to test if this solves the problem i unplug the white connector that provides power to the battery and stick two wires into it and have the other end to a 9 v battery. The motor is bipolar so if it the red cable is positive then it goes up and if black cable is positive then it goes down. test it out before you put it back together.

maybe i left something out... just let me know. hope this help dont get on to me if you're not careful and break something.
