actually Caesar at Lightwerkz did that.. the Halos just get hot i guess.. i dont see a ton of reason for it to be honest.
I edned up yanking the LED strips off btw.. not enuff room in there w the gasket i made for my halos. theyre actually mounteda bit far back.. if i were to do it again, id really like to find an 86-87mm halo and find a way to mount them closer to the nose.
Oh well, im good with what i have now.

Is your cut-off affected by the leds in the projector bowl at all? I'm about 2 weeks away from yanking my lights out of my 07, and I have everything either ready to go, or on their way. I found some green 13,000 mcd leds like the ones you linked in the beginning of the thread, and I'm thinking about putting three of them per light. If it obstructs the cut-off, I'd rather not put em in. Yours look dope btw.. very jealous. Hopefully mine turn out

I did this in my old headlights
*Glass beaded then High Temp Black
*entire projector housing and cutoff shield, minus reflector bowl
*do not dismount cutoff shield, just paint it in place [found this out the hard way]
This makes the projector look completely blacked out during the day, and gets rid of most of whatever glare is left over after the sti clear lense mod [sharper cutoff]
This has been covered in HIDPLANET.com
Alot of guys paint High Temp blue or red
probably not a wise decision to use a gloss finish paint due to the fact that it may create glare and mess with cutoff [just a little]
If you are gonna do the demon eye mod, and want to paint the projector housings, you may want to use the same color as the led [no black]
If you do this, you should prob bake the projector housing [minus reflector bowl] at a low temp so that the High Temp paint can fully cure and release the VOC gasses. Dont want your headlights to yellow because of the VOC's

I too want to have the colored background, but don't dig the demon eye thing.

Now I've just got to decide if I wanna do my cutoff shields black or a blue accent color. I've got a little bit of blue going on with my burnt Ti exhaust tips and lugs, but am debating if it will be too much. I don't want the blue to start looking tacky on my solar orange.

results..
i found a 12v power supply ..snapped a couple powered up shots.. all i can say is that pics do NOT do it justice..its SO bright now and just crisp white ( zero blue tint) that im literally sick... very happy, and WELL worth the labor and time spent carefully building them.
heres just the exterior ccfl..its SICK bright.. mky ph adjusted for the luminance.. all i can say is that its almost like a set of driving lights haha.
heres just the interior iron man triple halo set up..awesome..
heres both of them fired up..
and finally the demon eye shots..

Looks awesome!
What kind of Halo's did you have before from Lightwerkz? I have the ones that fit around the shroud with some sanding required, but I find the light output to be almost non-existant during daylight. Not sure if the ones from RetrofitSource would make a huge difference?
Thanks for the tip about the DEPO headlights. I destroyed a lens by getting black silicone on it, and then tried to clean it off and it burned through the plastic.. oops.

silicone is not what you want to you at all.
Hence Nissan and DEPO do not use it.
OXy Butyl rubber glue ( roll) from Retrofit source is all you should ever use.
Oxy butyl glue can be very easily removed from the outside of the light after reassembly using wd40 spray and a microfiber cloth. It comes right off.
The Halos are Morimoto, and are not covered in plastic like the ones you apparently sanded. The sanding gives a spread of light, but obviously cuts down the brightness. I also chose to use three as you can see.
They are extremely cheap, and i reccomend you order 2 extra pair at the same time as you WILL break some while you learn to install them.

So you know that plastic piece of the headlight that you used vinyl on and left the stripe? I was curious, do people usually paint that whole piece solid black? I just upgraded to 06+ headlights and will be painting them tomorrow or so. And I was wondering if you painted that piece solid black would you still be able to see the turn signal?
Thanks for the awesome thread!

Shaddy,
I have not seen anyone paint that piece before. Most people leave it clear as is, or leave it out altogether. The OP is the only 06+ headlight I've seen with anything modified to that piece.
Thanks bmcann.. Yeah my original halos are enclosed in plastic, and the underside had to be sanded less than a mm to make them fit (the underside, where no light shows through the plastic). Will buy extras and if I don't break them, I can just double up on the halos.
And I bought some of the Nissan headlight sealant, I will buy some of the Oxy Butyl since it is pretty cheap and compare the two when I seal them back up.

Yeah thanks for the reply. I've been looking at a lot of different lights and I think most people take out both the speckled piece and that part he vinyled along with the turn signal diffuser. Looks better that way I guess.

i like a more oem look, and having the plastic in there as well as my mod i think gave it a more cohesive look, its all preference.
I didnt paint it, its wrap material just like my car, so i can remove it if i want later on.
ANd about the Oxy Butyl versus nissan, they are the same thing.. alot of ppl just use silicone, and this is a bad thing to use. It yellows, drioes and gets ahrd and loses its seal properties.. oxybutyl can separate the skin it sticks to on your cleaned fingertips from the dermis below when its new.. ruff stuff, perfect for the job tho.

Hi bmccann101,
Awesome writeup! Makes me wanna redo my halos.
I currently have the Iron Man Halo that I did last year. Only used 1 ring in each headlight. I was disappointed that the ccfl wasn't very visible during the daytime. It only looked awesome right after sunset.
Does using 3 ccfl in each headlight solve that? Or do I need the exterior halo ccfl if I want it to be visible any time of the day?
