Default DIY refurbish hatch lifters

This will probably be the easiest, quickest and cheapest repair you'll ever do.
To remove the lifter from the hatch you turn it 90' and pull out of the slot.
Take it to your work bench, remove the boot and insert pennies in the bottom of the boot as required to provide additional preload to the lifter.
Replace the lifter. Keep adding pennies as necessary.
I had to do this to mine as I added some sound deadener to my hatch and it wouldn't pop up,so you could lift it.

like i said, this works for a bit but puts extra pressure on the spring and it will eventually fail (think mine was like a year). they are expensive for what they are though

Just curious if anyone has tried anything like these? They would provide extra push and its what they are meant to do. I dont think they would break as easy as the other either.

i would worry that they are too deep, wouldnt want to bend the hatch up from the underside

I was thinking more of putting them on the body side and let them push up. they make flush mount ones also
