Default Great experience today - brake/pads/sway bar related

I got off work early today to drive down to Carrolton GA to pick up my order from Z1.

Going down GA 166 is a nice mix of country road bends and curves; gave the Z a little workout; definitely needs upgraded sway bars!

Got to Z1, my first experience with them; great price, great service, friendly people, great facility.

I picked up some BREMBO front and rear slotted/drilled rotors, HAWK pads and a set of Hotchkis sway bars.

Went home.

Thank Z1 Motorsports.

Good Z day

Installing as I type.

---------------------

UPDATE:

I just finished both front and rear sets. Went out for a shake down drive.

The handling is so much better, more neutral and much more predictable. I set the Hotchkis bars at the 3 slot on the front and the 2 slot on the rear.

The brembos look nice, and the Hawk pads, well.. they are pads.

Right now I hear a bit of grinding from the pads, but I know that will go away with a few low heat cycles ~ 200miles.

Anyway, now I have the following...

TOKICO D-Spec struts - set at 1/2 turn front and 1/8th turn rear.
SPRINT SPRINGS - 1.8 drop, settled to ~2" now
Dunlop DIREZZA ZR - stock size
HOTCHKIS sway bars - 3fr/2rr
BREMBO slotted/drilled rotors - stock size
HAWK HPS pads - stock size

Next will be some wheel spacers, window tint, redline tranny and diff fluid, JW stage II clutch kit.

Thanks for listening.

DAY 2:

The sway bars add a great piece of balance to the SPRINT / D-Spec combo.

I noticed that the tires, and spring/strut combo are not working near as hard now, having the thicker sway bars in place.

It will be intersting to add a complete camber/toe package as well as eurethane bushings to the rear cross member pieces.

Ever developing.

PEACE.

1/2 turn and 1/8th turn? Boy you need to raise the dampening a bit! Do you mean 1/8th and 1/2 turn back from full stiff?

1/2 turn up from 0 in the front, 1/8th turn from 0 in the back.

I think I will try full stiff in the front and 3/4 stiff in the rear this weekend.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT......

Just turned the front to full stiff and the rear to 3/4 stiff.

DAY 3
Thanks for the TIP.

I turned the front Dspecs up to full stiff, and the rear Dpsecs to 3/4 stiff.

It seems to me that the linear SPRINT springs were not damped enough, and that was causing the somewhat harsh ride.

I can also say that the harsh ride was also coming from the rubber sway bar bushings as well. We all know that rubber suspension parts react(knee jerk) rather than respond the way a eurathane bushing does.

So my DAY 3 impressions are this...

With the linear SPRINT springs, Dspec turn up full front & 3/4 rear, and the hotchkis sway bars on the third position front / 2 position rear, the car not only handles better, but it also rides better than stock!!!

The ride is actually more in control and more comfortable than stock; amazing.

I had anticipated a much harsher ride.

DAY 3 Concluions:

Even though I like a lowered car, I would say that sway bars, or simply replacing all rubber bushings with eurethane is the first suspension step to make.

DAY 4 - The set up is wonderful.

DAY 1 - gear/tranny oil change.

Added AMSOIL GL-4 and GL-5 to the mix last night.

Rear diff ~2qts / tranny ~4qts.

First impression - the AMSOIL is a nice product, made the 1-2-3 shift allot smoother w/o the tranny being warm.

I also noticed less driveline noise today going at low or high speeds.

More to come.

I just got my trans fluid and diff fluid change done. Shifts like butta! The old stuff that came out was in good shape, no metal etc. So far I'm satisfied with the redline fluids

I used redline in my last vehicle; so I thought I'd try amsoil just this once to see the difference. I might swap to redline this Christmas for a comparrison.

UPDATE: will be lifting the Z on Saturday and retightening the sway bar mounts due to some low speed clunking sound.

Same thing happened on the last two cars I have owned, after adding sway bar kits; so nothing new.

I'll give an update after I re-torque everything.

PEACE

Found the issue... upper end link nut was loose on the front sway bar.

The issue stems from Hotchkis placing in the instructions to bend the the factory retziner washer on the upper end link to properly install the end link.

So I chanked it down to 90 foot lbs of tq! Let's see it loosen now!

Re torqued all suspension bolts while I was at it. Esta' Bueno!

Added the AMSOIL synthetic engine oil and AMSOIL oil filter, the engine idles smoother and seems to rev slightly quicker.

Good stuff.
