Is it true that rotors need to be machined every time you change pads or only when it’s required ( in case there is vibration or the rotor shows surface damage). A friend insist that it’s required to have them machined, I would like to believe that he is wrong… Please confirm who is right. Also, the grease used for the brake pads… Do I really have to buy it from the dealer or could it be from regular autozone… I just don’t want to melt that grease and then have pure oil on my brakes…
There's nothing that requires the resurfacing of rotors when replacing pads. It's a judgement call based on the rotors themselves. If the rotor surface is scored you certainly want to have the resurfaced. You can also check the surface of the rotors for warping and have them turned as needed.
Get any high temperature brake grease from Autozone, Oreilly, etc.
