Hi everyone. I had Tein S-techs on stock shocks and just had sent in my car to the local shop to install new Tein Basis, on my 2004 350z.

I asked the shop to lower the car (1/2 inch lower) than what it was on with the Tein Stechs. They just called and let me know that they have lowered the rears the lowest it can go and it is still 1/2 inch higher than what it was with the Tein Stechs.

Can this be correct? Is the Tein basis coilovers 1/2 higher than Tien S-tech springs, even on its lowest settings?

I just read through the first few pages again, and although it looks like a possible compression bushing issue, the description from a site selling them didn't match up.

BIG Problem driving home last night;

Starting from a standstill, moving off slowly, the steering wheel will move a few inches to the left as if it gets to one point on the tyre, then stays there, another rotation and it moves a couple more inches.

If i reverse, it moves to the right instead. This is creating a 'shimmy' at about 5-10mph and a vibration as i go faster.

Does this sound like compression rod bushings or something else?
I checked the tyres/wheels and they seem ok. Car is standard height/running gear and ~88k miles.

I had a similar issue in my g35. It was a busted band in my tire. Made like a ping pong size bump. Took me forever to figure it out lol

I really was wondering if it was a bulge in the main part of the tyre, i checked it as best i could (not very well) when i got in, but i need to actually go out and do a real check tonight.
I'll also add that the tyres are old, on their way out, and whilst there is tread left, it's close to sketchy. Also, the long drive was all at speed.

The other thing i suspected just now is a possible wheel bearing issue?

Hey im I got new front uppper control arms and rear tracction and toe arms but im trying to find a new rear lower control arm and then the front compression arms and the transverse arms any ideas

Wanted to update in here, seems the problem i was experiencing wasn't suspension/bushing related.
The tyre has a two inch wide bulge in it that reaches about a third of the way round the circumference.

I had missed the part about the Energy Suspension compression rod bushings and had swapped everything in the front to them (purchased complete front kit), only to realize this is how they sit if your suspension is dropped:



So, as JasonZ-YA and others have said, stay away from them if you're lowering the car, you're better off with OEM replacements and changing when they tear, or going with the SPL, which is what I did and they are great!

I'm upgrading the suspension on the car in the winter, to wondering if you can find a good setup to me. car is for daily use and sometimes the track of the year.

has today Bilstein PSS10 coilover 1.18-1.37inch lower, Nismo body damper and diff bushing.

What I think is: h&r sway bar, SPL Pro Solid subframe Bushings, hardrace rubber bushing arm, hardrace rubber bushing and maybe roll center adjuster and moonface upper arm.

will not have too much noise and vibration.
everything should look as originally as possible.


What do you think of this setup?

do you recommend some mono ball bushing, is not it too much noise and vibration to normal use?

The car has been on corner weighting. Front 898lbs and 890lbs, rear 782kg

Front caster 8`30 and 8`49
Front camber 1`47 and 1`52
Front toe 0`01
Rear camber 1`49 and 2`19
Rear toe 0`04 and 0`07

Can anyone give me an input in which brand of coils would be best used for daily driven and occasional track use (2-3) times a year,

I can't seem to location any of this info from searching. I've done alot of snooping around for may years and haven't logged in. haha (Not sure if any of you old school guys remember the Oxnard Nissan Bash car show days. That's how long- I was one of the locals helping out with it)

Anyhow I'm pretty sure I know my answer but would like to post this out for others to see that might have the same question (I did not notice it go into details in the suspesion 101- make we can add details on the brands/types along with i read that 2nd generations mounts would work too?)

I finally bought some legit coilovers. I purchased a pair of KW V2 from ZSpeed. While these are been shipped as we speak, I would like to know if I can run the KYB front and rear mounts with the kw v2 (or in fact should I ask, is there any type that it won't work on). I image so but just would like to double check.


Also I would like to thanks all the old school guys that have put work in. Thanks guys for been pioneers. (even the guys that may not be around anymore)

@jasonz-ya the part where you mentioned to cut a 1 1/8 hole with a bi metal drill bit on the rear strut bar frame to gain access to rear coilover dampeners...I did just that but hole is only big enough for 1 finger to reach down and barely touch the side of dampener dial. Can the hole be cut wider?

do the top of your coils (or shocks) have an allen key hole in the top of them, if so go to harbor freight or someplace and get a long allen key to fit it and put through that hole to adjust. he is an engineer so i am pretty sure he said that size for a reason

No unfortunately, I have this type of dial:




I've tried pliers but they are a b*tch to turn with pliers. It keeps slipping when I try to rotate the dial.

The left one seems to rotate somewhat, but the right one doesn't seem to budge. I'm not looking forward to removing the coilover again. It is a huge P.I.T.A.
