Welcome. Something is screwed up on your Z- there's no connection between the headlights/running lights and how the brake lights function. Rather than guess, try running a diagnostic to see what kind of codes the ABS module is providing.

If you have cruise control, don't confuse the two switches which look similar and are mounted on the same bracket.

Or possibly rubber stopper that depresses the brake light switch is missing which I found out about last nite on my car.
The brake pedal as 2 stoppers one for the brake lights and the other
for the cruise control. They are 2 small rubber grommets that fit into a hole that
presses the button in to turn off the brake lights, that is the upper hole. The lower hole
keeps button pressed in for the cruise and when you press on the brake it releases
the button to disengage the cruise.
There is also a third grommet on the clutch pedal if you have a manual transmission
for when starting the car, the pedal has to be depressed to start. Now if this one goes
missing I would believe you can start the car without depressing the clutch because
the button is pressed in on the switch to stop the car from starting so without the rubber
stopper the button would always be released and you could start the car without stepping
on the clutch.
I would always check to see if grommets are missing first if you have issues that may be related to those switches
and then change switches if the grommets are still in place and it seems like its related to them instead.
There are several part numbers for them some cost 15.00 and others cost 2 and 3 and 6 dollars.
I believe they are interchangeable so I would go for the cheaper ones.
Here are several part numbers so you can do your own research and comparisons. it
5512-H0101 $8.00-15.00 range
46584-S0100 $2.00-7.00 range
46584-5P010 $4.00.12.00 range
Clutch has a different style stopper part also, part number 46543-Q0400
Obviously if its the brake light one you may just want to find a dealership and pay the 15.00 since it's unsafe to drive
without working brake lights but if it's the other ones you can order online and get a better deal. I broke the one for
my cruise control while installing the one for my brakes. I ordered 5 of the cheap ones cause my wife has an Altima
and I'm pretty sure they'll work on her car to if needed plus to have a few on hand for the future.
To install it its best to have the car started so you can depress the brake pedal easier, the flat side
of the grommet should be facing the button on the switch. Just align the nipple into hole then slowly
release pedal and then when sure it's lined up pull back on pedal and it should easily fully lock into
hole or apply soap on end of it or use pliers to press it in.Hope this helps all.

The brake lights and tail lights are one bulb with two filaments. The tail lamp filament is rated at 5 watts while the brake light filament is 21 watts. So my first question is, are you seeing the tail lights or the brakes lights? Also, is the high mounted brake light on when the light switch is on? If the high mounted light is off with the light switch on and you're really seeing the brake lights, check the bulbs.
