Akebono for 08 350Z Base w/ Grand Touring wheels
Hey guys,
After paying off my car 8 months ago I finally started modding her. I currently have KW Variant 3 Coilovers, Hotchkis sways, powergrid endlinks and Stillen Gen 3's.
I traded for some Grand Touring wheels early when I got the car and always wanted to fill that empty space with some nice brakes. My dad has a 2014 370Z and when I saw his brakes I knew I needed them; I have the entire kit from CZP in the living room atm.
I will be having Precision Z install them this weekend along with the ART pipes I just received.
I can't help but expect the worst and am second guessing if they will actually clear the wheels? I have searched this forum up and down with no real conclusive evidence.
From what I gather there are no issues fitting them behind the stockies that came on my car and most other OEM wheels.
I know I could have printed out the templates but I guess in my head if they fit under the base wheels, I thought for sure it wouldnt be an issue.
If anybody has advice or experience with the brakes and these wheels I'd really appreciate your thoughts. At the end of the day I will ultimately find out when I get them put on. I will document/share my experience for anyone else considering this setup.
Thanks in advance, cheers!

They fit under the V1 Touring Wheels... barely. I'm 99% sure they fit under the V2 Touring Wheels. I'll you know after this weekend as I'm swapping my '03 V1 for '07 V2.
I did the install of the Akebono's myself using the guide on this site, its not that bad just a few extra steps beyond the normal tasks related to replacing rotors and pads. The time consuming part is removing the rear dust shields.

I appreciate the response; it seems we're in almost the same boat.
We will both find out this weekend and we should share our experience here
I would install them myself (Did a wilwood kit on my RSX-S) but I want to get the test pipes done at the shop so its a 2 birds one stone scenario.
I think they'll fit!

Yep the V2 Touring wheels clear the Akebonos The spokes clear with a little more room then the older V1 but the barrel of the rims are TIGHT, like no room for wheel weight tight
Attached are some picts of the Akebonos under the V1 and V2 Touring wheels for comparison...

Wow! Although I am happy they will clear my V1 touring wheels (winter wheels) I can't believe how close it is!
I cannot wait to throw these on, should have been done over a month ago but I'm so busy every weekend.

This is good news, I'm glad they fit for you!
Unfortunately for me I have the Grand Touring wheels which are similar to the 07-08 nismo wheels lol
I will hopefully get everything put on tomorrow and will report back with results! Thanks for sharing

I cannot see them not fitting on the Grand Touring wheels. IIFC the only OEM wheels that the Akebono kit does not fit with is the V1 17's and the V1 track wheels.

I know the Z comes in Grand Touring specification (IE: model), but I though the only wheels/rims available from '03 thru '08 were:
Base (17")
Touring V1 and V2 (18")
"Rays" Track V1 (18") and V2 (18" front / 19" rear)
NISMO (18" front / 19" rear)
According to the FAQ the Grand Touring uses the Rays Track wheels (V2 I assume).

I believe that is what they are referred as; here's a pic of my car with the wheels (sorry for the quality).

What are "Grand Touring wheels"? Is there even such a thing?

That is so weird. I have seen many people running the V2 with no clearance issues. That is why I ordered them not worrying about it fitting. Now you are starting to make me nervous.

You can only really check after you have torqued all the wheel nuts to ensure the rim is totally centered on the hub. A quick check with just the wheel on the studs isn't good enough.
Its hard to get good pictures of the fit because one end of the caliper is slightly longer then the other. So to show the full fitment you have to rotate the spoke out of the way.
I've run one HPDE track event and a weeks worth of driving to / from work (18 mile each way) without issue with the Akebono Touring V2 combo. I ran the V1 combo for several months.

It spins without touching. I had to relocate some brake weights. After that they cleared with about the thickness of a USB port. The gap is maybe 3-5 mm... very tiny.

Based on the above explaination looks like you'll be fine. My mistake.
