Thinking of a 350Z
Hey everyone, im new here and currently have a 06 Pontiac G6. I was thinking of buying a new a car sometime this year. My mind is set on an manual 07 350Z. There not that expensive and seem like a amazing car I can take to the track and drive. This would only be my second car (im only 17) and I was just wondering what some 350Z owners think about the car and whatnot. Its obviously better then my G6 but im looking for some "heads up" I guess you could say. I live in NorthEast Ohio and the winters are bad. The 3 garage spots we have are being occupied by my parents cars so I would have to keep it outside. Could this potentially be a huge problem? Thanks.

The 350Z is a very reliable car and when driven correctly, will gives years of good service. The car sitting outside should not be a problem unless you have some mischievous high school friends that might be jealous and vandalize your Z. If your winters are bad, you would definitely need snow tires on all four corners.

I live in NJ and daily mine. This has been the worst winter in the last few years and the Z is a champ with snow tires as long as you're careful. Mine is a base and even without traction control it does fine. Just make sure you clean off the god forsaken road salt (undercarriage too).
I came from a 2004 pontiac grand prix gtp which, I guess, is a step up from a g6. The Z is on a completely different level. Before I sold it, going back and forth between the two made the Z feel like a Ferarri. But yea, all that being said just make whatever decision you're comfortable with and do your research.

So your parents have three cars and yours has to stay outside. That third car of theirs gets more love than you. I get it. They don't love you as much as they love their cars. But yeah, a Z would be fine. . . . stuck out there in the cold with no love from the grandparents.

If your G6 has been just fine parked outside at night, a 350Z should have no problem. My '8 350Z serves as a winter beater for my wife and so far it performs just fine even in below-zero temperatures in Ohio. It has oversized GT Radial winter tires mounted on the stock wheels.

Nobody cares how old you are, OP. You are wondering if it will "hurt" the car parking it outside?

I actually went from an '07 G6 GTP to an '08 350z. I bought a second car for my winter/work car though too. I would not recommend a 350z as a primary car for the winter. It can be done, sure, if you have winter tires or even a decent set of ALL SEASON (absolutely no to summer tires) and driving skill. It will still be a pain in the a** sometimes . For me it was annoying taking the extra time to spin my way out of driveways, creep down icy backroads, etc. I have a 370z now and that is just terrible in the snow..not sure if its the wider rear tires or what
Bottom line: 07+ Z's (HR) are fantastic cars. Great motor, reliability. If you do decide to get it make sure to have good rubber and just know its a different ball game in the winter

Very sad. And what does the performing in below zero temps have to do with anything? . Are Z's assumed to not run if it's not sunny and 75?? Its the ice+RWD and snow+low ground clearance that are the issues. I also am not sure why anyone would be a member of this site if the Z was merely their winter beater. I care about my winter beater just enough to not drive it off a cliff...let alone joining it's car forum online

Just because I use mine as a winter beater that I shouldn't join this forum? Thanks for making my own choice.
The reason why I mentioned below-zero temperature was because the OP lived in NE Ohio. I live in Central Ohio. In case you didn't know, NE Ohio experiences lower temperatures in winter, not extremely lower but significant. So far my Z does just fine, so, since OP was wondering about that, I gave him my answer which deals with icy condition. I indicated that I ran oversized winter tires, and in case you're wondering, they give the car extra ground clearance to deal with snow and ice.
