Default Would like an opinion on this 350z that I may purchase.

2003 touring, 71,156 miles, comes with 10 tires (8 of them on rims)
We discussed and agreed on $10,500 as a fair price with nothing wrong with it.

From the advertisement:

I am selling my red 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring edition, 6 speed manual. It has 71,156 miles, and I am the second owner. I will be selling the car with 18' forgestar F14 wheels wrapped in hancook ventus v12 summer tires, two extra brand new tires for the stock wheels, and four snow tires on the stock wheels (total of 8 wheels and 10 tires). I just swapped out the original battery over the winter.

Additional modifications:
Nismo exhaust (made by nissan so it is a genuine racing product)
Berk HFCs
Short ram intake
Plenum Spacer
Pioneer touch screen radio with slot for MP3, SD drive, thumb drive, DVD and CD player

Oil changed every 3,000 miles along with regular maintenance. Has heated leather seats, traction control, and tire pressure monitors. Paint is starting to fade on side view mirrors but other than that, in great condition.

---------------------------------

It still has the original clutch in it. Would this be something to worry about? I was told the clutch still feels strong and grabs great.

Also, do these modifications cause any concern? Should i get some additional information on it? He's about 3 hours south and I'd like to go pick it up this weekend.

It looks clean. Only concern I would have that it may have been running lean since it wasn't tuned. As for clutch I would prepare for a new install.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm interested in the car, but i don't want to drive 6 hours round trip just to find out that the clutch is slipping or is in bad shape. As for it running lean, do you recommend I get it tuned?

You may be able to get away without tune since you have a nismo exhaust and HFCs but drive it and see where the RPM's idle. If above 500 you are good to go. As for price I would say it close to spot on.

As for clutch, get a feel for it. If it is bad or worn out. Try negotiating that into deal.

Okay, that sounds good! I'm bringing a friend with me who owns a 370z, and is fairly knowledgeable with Z's. Should I bring it to a mechanic down there anyway? Just trying to look at this from all possible angles and get some advice. You guys on this forum seem to be the go to people!

Always have a mechanic check it out. Interior looks clean.

Good luck.

Well, the KBB on an 03 touring in Good condition with 71,156 miles is $12,300. So as long as it's in good condition I'd say great deal......

The Nissan ECU can be all over the place as far as Tune from the Factory. The few modifications can affect the tune a little, but the only way to know for sure is monitor the AFR's with sensor and gauge or put in on a Dyno. Personally, I'd not worry about it......

Depending on have the car has been driven, the clutch could last a very long time of 100,000 miles or more. Or not long at all. Cluthes wear out, so to install a new one is not that be of deal......

looks clean, and you never know about the clutch, they are a wear item and no telling how the prior owners drove it. i would low ball him some and then see if you can meet in the middle somewhere

Really appreciate these great responses. If the clutch feels a little off, I'll definitely factor that in. I'll keep you guys posted as to how this works out for me. Thanks again!

Make sure you stay cool when you are there. Check for over spray paint and body damage if there were any. You can even negotiate the price to $9500 about the worn clutch and brake rotors and pads. Other than that, good luck.

Title is marked as clean, have not asked though. Hopefully I can use the older clutch as a little bit of leverage to bring price down. He said the car has been sitting since he bought a new car and it's been off the road, hopefully he really wants to get rid of it.

10.5k is too much for that Z.

The KBB price that someone mentioned above is for a completely stock Z in good/great condition with similar mileage

Every aftermarket part decreases its value; he's done most bolt-on performance mods possible for the DE so I'd be suspicious of any abuse

Of course the clutch is something you need to worry about.. another negotiating point.

Ask him to provide a Carfax. It's ~$40.. If he's serious about selling he won't have any issues providing one.

I wouldn't pay over 9k for it. Used car from a private seller, cash is king.

Good luck

That's the mindset I'm going in with. I'm sure if the car has been sitting long enough, he'll want to get rid of it rather than have it lose value.

One thing I question is the tire pressure monitoring. This is an '03. TPMS did not become standard equipment until '05. Maybe, TPMS can be added aftermarket?
Might be worth verifying.

http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-...sting=84023716

2004 350z performance, 80k miles, $10,995 (obviously can negotiate this down)

was told the clutch has been replaced. car looks to be completely stock.

any thoughts? can dealerships be just as sketchy as private sellers?

It's not really their fault. The VIN # does not determine what model it is that's why it's important for a buyer to know the difference between models. It can work in your favor if they think it's a lesser model but in most cases they try to pass them off as a car with a higher value.
