2006 Z, what are things to look out for when buying used?
Hi,
I'm looking at a 2006 350z, are there anythings to look out for when buying used?
In the 2003-09 model, where there any bad years to buy or better 'versions'?
It has around 50K on it.

im going to list out the extent of my knowledge to educate you lol.
03-05 DE:transmission synchro issues most people wait for theirs to go out and upgrade to a cd009
master cylinder issue, its a cheap fix but a pain in the *** because it comes out of nowhere
base models don't have hid lights or vlsd, not a problem but hindsight I really wish I had both of these lol
window motor issues, people have been known to go through 2-3 motors its an easy fix but trust me is a pain in the ***
power steering pump failure, cheap fix, this one seems to be less common but none the less I ran into it.
05-06 rev-up: oil consumption is the biggest problem ive seen with these someone people report having no issues but the majority seem to have it.
much lower torque figures, they changed the plenum to give it a little boost in hp which resulted in less torque not really a problem but something worth knowing.
window motor problem , its across the board in all 350z models.
my understanding is these transmissions have a csc problem which is kind of a pain in the *** considering im pretty sure you have to drop the tranny to get to it, I may be wrong someone with a newer model might be able to clarify this.
07-08 HR: has the best engine in my eyes its got the dual intake setup and much stronger internals then the previous two engines which if you plan on boosting later on will make a big difference.
ive heard of some oil consumption issues but they are few and far between.
the god forsaken window motor again.
and ive heard of some csc problems which again can be a pain to fix.
honestly I have an DE and hindsight I really wish I would of spent the extra cash to get an HR. I love my DE but for the extra money you get HID headlights, a better tranny, a vlsd, an engine with stronger internals for boosting, the LED taillights (I don't like em but they seem to be popular), and more power granted its not much but in a vq especially N/A ones every little bit counts.
EDIT: just learned that all 3 base models come with an open differential. just as a side note.

06 Has speed sensitive steering, is MONSTROUSLY cheaper to mod then an HR, has a a few interior trim parts that are better looking, and most people freak out over the "oil consumption" of the rev up. I own one and so do 2 friends of mine, no consumption.
Im sure there are a few cars that have this issue due to people not having it fixed under warrenty, but people on this forum blow this issue way out of proportion. HRs are nice but if you are looking to do work on it expect to pay a ton more. It's also a lot more expensive right now to buy a used 2007-08

If your planning on boosting it (turbos or supercharger) definitely get one with a HR motor. The DE motors can't handle must boost. I've seen broken rods at only 7.5psi on De motors and I know a couple people running 11-12psi and putting down over 600rwhp on stock HR motors. If I knew this before I bought my 350z I would have saved the extra.

Cheaper to mod? Not all at.
And the revups aren't going to get as much gains as an HR on those mods.

I've never seen an HR making 600whp on stock internals, but I'm thinking of trying for it

I have an 06. I have done 3 track days with it in the last 6 months. I change the oil before and after no oil consumption. I've read about it, but never seen it. My friend also has an 06 and tracks his. No problems.
Like buying any used car, look it over with a fine tooth comb. Remember you are buying a used car. USED CAR.
