My coworker did not show up to work nor answer his cell phone this morning. He finally showed up at 2pm with his brand new silver RX-8 and parked next to my Z. WTF? Has anyone skipped work to buy a car?
Anyway, he bought it for $2500 BELOW invoice (NOT MSRP,aka sticker price). I have never heard of a Z gone below invoice price. The Mazda dealer must have gone insane.
Sad news for my other friend who bought it at MSRP.
sometimes RX-8 go on the paper in the AUTO section.. where all the dealers put their special deals. i saw one for 22k, brand new. but im not sure if it was automatic or manuel. too bad they dont' do that for nissan 350z's.
they sell them so cheap due to the let down of the power .
at one time mazda said they put out blah blah hp and it didnt.. so now the smart consumer is not going to buy something they know is not as fast as it supposed to be
at 2500 under invoice the rx8 becomes pretty interesting. 24.5k for the hi-power rx8 which includes lsd, cruise control, is a better value than the base z (which is usually around 25.5k-26k).
edit: correction, hi-power rx8 for 2500 under invoice is 22k!! now it's priced around cars that it's actually pretty superior to.
I took delievery of my Z 2am in the morning. The next morning I couldn't start my car because they forgot to take off a dealer's alarm. I didn't get to work til 1:30pm the next day.
Originally posted by SQUILL its no suprise to me that they are selling them that cheap ...nobody wants one.
Still it was probably 2500 under invoice after rebate.
They don't sell THAT badly considering how few cars Mazda sells compared to Nissan. Calendar year to date in the US, Mazda has sold 8234 RX-8s vs. 11266 350Zs. I don't know what Mazda's targets are, how those #s compare to production #s for cars destined for the US market, and how many days of inventory they have for the 8 vs the Z.
BTW, if you post your comments on rx8club.com, you'll get flamed so badly.. they'll go on and on about how the RX8 >> the Z, how the Z is ugly, sucks, etc.
