Default Resurrection of a GLI

Saturday, I spent roughly 9 hours detailing my best friend's neglected GLI. This was not a 100% correction because it was a pro bono job and time contraints.

As usual I forgot to take pictures before beginning. I had just sprayed water on the outside and remembered to take pictures and shot some pbefore doing anything else. The water on the paint in the pictures really hid some of the dullness of the paint. The paint had every problem that you could possibly imagine going on with it. It had RDS (random deep scratches), heavy and light swirls, oxidation, acid etching and water spots that helped to destroy the depth and richness of the red paint. The driver's side headlight was heavily oxidized and the passenger was brand new due to an insurance claim he had and got a new headlight.

The interior was disgusting and after about 20 minutes of making fun of my friend, we started pulling everything out of there so we could see what we were working with. The interior had months of dirt and grass ground into the carpet, faded vinyl, goo in every cup holder and crevice and hard dry leather seats. We cleaned everything in the interior and were not able to condition the leather before taking the pictures. I had somewhere to be so I gave him a bottle of my leather conditioner to take home and use. The LSU game was about to start so I had rushed to take the after pics and forgot to get pics of the engine when it was finished.

Process:

Exterior
foam with chemical guys citrus & clear
wash with CG citrus and clear and grout sponge
Clay with Griot's Garage medium clay(clean wash water as lube)
wheels and engine cleaned with CG Grime reaper
Polish with Makita 4" LC green pad and auto magic swirl remover
Polish with Makita 4" orange pad and auto magic Gloss restorer
Meguiar's #26 wax (high tech yellow carnauba wax)
Tires dressed with Zaino dressing
Headlight, sand with 1000 grit then 2000 and polish with orange pad and auto magic Gloss restorer

Interior
Interior cleaned with soapy water and cotton terry cloth towel
Interior dressed with 303 Aerospace Protectant
(not seen) leather conditioned with Zaino leather conditioner

Engine
Dressed with 303 Aerospace protectant (forgot to take pics of it afterwards)

After Pics:

Here are some pIcs of my car. I keep it immaculate so I just washed it with CG citrus and waxed also with Meg #26 and dressed the tires with Meguiars long lasting tire gel

Sorry for the long post but I really wanted to illustrate the difference before and after. The pictures really dont do it much justice but was the best I could do with my limited photography skills.

Let me know what you think.

I agree about the leather, that is why I told him to take the conditioner and have fun. The interior was primarily detailed by him because I wanted him to know how to keep up with it so what better than to clean his own car. Ill post some pics of the interior after he does the leather.
