I usually soak the car with the hose.

Then wring out my sponge with soap over the car to resoak it.

Lightly rinse it.

Resoak with the sponge.

Wash it with the sponge "rinsing frequently" also have a backup sponge in case I drop one or get scratchy stuff on it.

So I guess I would say a high quality natural sponge is the least abrasive if you use it properly.

dont use a sponge.

ever.

it holds the dirt no matter what, unless you are willing to get a brand new sponge every time you wash.

another option is a 100% cotton towel, DFtowel has some very high quality, but most any made in america towels will be sufficient.

also I hear about microfiber, not sure if its drying only or for washing too.

Get a cotton chenille or lambs wool mitt to wash with. You can find them a wally world, autozone, O-reily, etc.

Get a waffle-weave microfiber towel to dry with. Or, a 100% cotton towel will do.

DO NOT use a sponge to wash clear coat, use a high pile cotton wash mit, the kind you put your hand in, the best ones I have seen lately are sold ONLY at NAPA under their house brand name.....
