Like the borg ... Vista is inevitable.

I'm building a quad gaming machine which I'll triple boot with XP/Vista/Linux-of-the-month. With all new high-end hardware Vista ought to be pleased but I'm keeping my XP/Hedgehog around for the duration. To top off my "fun" I'm also upgrading (?) from Office 2003 to Office 2007 with the ghey new ribbon bar.

I don't plan on getting anything done at home for weeks.

Gee....I wonder what kind of hardware specs those computers were probably running. I imagine if you spend a grand on new hardware Vista might actually run.....and then you'll have the great experience of being able to do the same stuff you could with XP. As I've seen others say, Vista is a solution looking for a problem. It doesn't offer significant functionality improvements over XP.

For me, Vista performance was so bad that it drove me to a Mac and I'd never so much as even played around with a Mac before. I want to thank Microsoft for driving me away......otherwise without Vista I may never have found out how truly great all the Apple stuff really is.

Funny, no one ever really made that complaint when having to upgrade to run the latest and greatest games.

Those are a small select group of hardcore users....people who are willing to throw hundreds and thousands of bucks at a computer to play games are not typical computer users by a longshot. The majority of people who want to surf, use MS Office, edit photos/video/audio, and other stuff like that will gain nothing by upgrading to Vista and wasting all that dough....

Small and select doesn't come to mind when you ask me about the computer gaming industry.

98SE FTW!

No, I'm not kidding. My desktop is running 98SE so I can play my Jane's combat simulators.

I lol'd

Maybe if you had a computer that could actually run Vista well...

Computer companies have the problem of selling underequipped computers... and this leads to people complaining about how slow Vista is, etc.

Computer gaming is a niche market.......consoles are a different entity.

I had 2 brand new top of the line laptops with about as much specs as you can cram into one.

Actually you've got it backwards......the problem is Microsoft creating an OS that doesn't run on normally equipped computers. Vista basically turned everybody's existing computer into an "underequipped" computer for no reason.....

My little M1330 runs Vista fine and it's definitely not top spec.

I guess I either know how to use a computer or don't need Vista to run at 21938210938203982 fps.

Built a computer for $800 (with 20 inch flat screen) and it runs vista perfectly. I see around 5fps less gaming on vista than XP.

people are full of it, vista got a horrible rap when it first released due to driver issues and hardware manuf being lazy on driver revisions. It also got a bad rap for being slow because everyone was trying to put it on their pentium 3 with 512mb of ram. Vista needs at least 2 gig of ram to multitask very well. With RAM running around $20 per gig for generic stuff, its kind of a no brainer.

Love my vista install, and I also love my OSX 10.5 I have on my macbook pro, but make no mistake, they both take the same amount of hardware to run smoothly.

Maybe they were top-of-the-line in 1995...

And I still find it funny that you found performance bad on Vista so you turned to Mac...

So you spent $$$ to build a computer to run Vista which performs worse than XP....am I reading that right?

Not true in my case.....my base Macbook doesn't have near the specs that my Dell XPS laptop did and the Macbook runs perfectly smooth and especially in places where Vista was choking like video playback and audio production.

Do Mac's have something to compare to DirectX 10 with? Let alone any good games?

One of the new laptops I tried was a top spec Dell XPS M1530......

As far as turning to the Mac for performance.....I just couldn't ignore the facts......performing the same activities on a Mac was faster and easier and actually cheaper. I wouldn't have gone Mac otherwise.....I'd never owned one before and hadn't planned to......an objective comparison sold me and months of ownership have continued to back up that decision.

No idea......the only game I play on computers is Solitaire. I have an Xbox 360 and a Sega Genesis for games.

No, my fiance had a mac G3(old) and she wanted to spend less than a grand to get a PC. So I built one, not even close to the latest and greatest hardware, and it ran vista great. Still use it today and we bought it almost a year ago. We game on it, we program on it (dreamweaver, ps, indesign) and do regular surfing/web crap. Works great.

My macbook pro is the 2.4ghz core2duo with 2 gig of ram. It runs about as fast as my core2duo 1.8ghz desktop with 2 gig of ram. Dont get me wrong, i love my macbook pro, but OSX 10.5 is just as bloated and beefy as far as hardware requirements as vista. On that token you could say that I spent $2000+ in my macbook to perform worse than vista.

Guess my $800 pc must be a factory freak!
