Help me pick a TV and a online retailer......
I'll give you some particulars.....
This is going in my manly room/Dolphins room/sports room. Room is 34 x 16 with a couch viewing tv distance of 10'. Since it's a sports room, pool table, darts, etc......the tv is viewed from all angles of the room. I've narrowed things down to......I'm gonna go the DLP route. I'm looking for something in the 61" to 73" range. I'm leaning toward Samsung HL61A750 (61"), Samsung HL67A750 (65"), Samsung HL72A650 (72")........I'm assuming most of you will say I need to go with the larger given my viewing distance. TV will be used mostly for NFL games, random parties, and some movie watching. Definitely not the main TV. I don't have HDTV now but I'm thinking of upgrading my DirectTV....... So that's my random thoughts........let me know if you have any other questions. So give me your thoughts.......whether it's "f^ck that Sammy piece of shat and go with Mitsubishi....." or whatever...... Also, reputable online retailers that might have the best price and service. Thanks.

"viewing tv distance of 10'" you'll need a 80" (SMPTE recommended) or 97" (THX recommended) screen.
Move your HDTV up two feet to 8 feet viewing distance and end up with 51" (SMPTE) and 62" (THX). That's my viewing distance and went with a 61" JVC LCoS display (a type of DLP). The you should be OK in that same size set as looking at SD material on an HD set and viewing distance isn't very enjoyable. For non-critical HD viewing you'll be fine at 10' easy. Make sure that you and your family all look at a DLP screen in a slightly darkened room to see if any of them are the 5% give or take who see "rainbows" due to an effect of the color wheel.

I've had a samsung DLP for over 2 years now and my pops has a bigger version of the same thing. Still a fantastic HD picture and flawless operation. I'd buy another one with no hesitation.....I've had all different kinds of HD sources hooked up to it too and they all look great (HD cable box, Xbox 360, HD-DVD player)

I know there is a huge debate about using BestBuy or Circuit City, but CC is "blowing out" their larger DLP models.
Pretty sure I saw a 73" the other day for 2499. Went to the store and they actually had a OPEN BOX Model of the same tv and were selling that for 1600, but who knows how long that thing was running for in the store.... |

HD is a must.
some online retailers that i've had some good experiences with are onecall, 6ave, jandr - the prices are hit and miss. onecall has a weekend sale every week, where you can sometimes pick stuff up at a steal.

My one recommendation is to buy high-ticket electronics at a smaller retailer, like Tweeter. It may cost a little more at the time of purchase, but the after purchase customer service is worth the price. It's like the difference between buying a used Lexus at a Toyota dealer or buying it at a Lexus dealer. The cars may be the same and the Toyota dealer may charge you a little less, but there's just something nice about drinking a cappuccino and kicking back in a leather chair while waiting for your warranty work to be performed.
As for the TV itself... go 1080P. All of the new technologies coming out are going to require a 1080P to take full advantage.

the HDMI is making a huge change this year, from like a few thousand color possibilities to well over a million. Wait. You're going to be buying the best anyway. might as well buy the best after the new tech is available and not spend a lot of dough on old tech just before the new stuff comes out.

Some of you guys aren't paying attention: Robin said he's going with a DLP HDTV - that automatically means "not the latest technology". It is, though, a very good choice if room permits, as the picture can be superb, and is the lowest price for picture/performance ratio right now.
Robin: keep frequenting slickdeals.net, and watch for deals. Also, keep your eyes on this site: http://www.warehousedeals.com/search.htm?keyword=listPrice%3A%5B000000000000000000030000+T O+999999999999999999999999%5D&firstRow=1&count=12&title=Deep %20Discounts I also like Vanns.com quite a bit. Just keep checking for daily deals. DLP's pop up all the time. I'd highly recommend the 73" Sammy that you cited - great choice. If money is secondary, I'd go with a Samsung DLP with LED backlighting instead of the bulb - better illumination distribution, and longer life.
