How do I connect my Laptop to my TV?

Hey I want to connect my Vaio to my Vizio. How is this possible? I walked around wal-mart tonight and I saw a cord that looks like a printer cable on one end and a HDMI cable on the other. Heres the link http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=7811232

Will this work? The guy at radio shack said I could get a regular DVI cord and just run it from my PC to my TV. The only problem with that is the fact that I won't have the sound from my laptop on my tv. If I go with the HDMI to DVI cord will this be possible? I know someone on here has a setup like this, can yall help me out.

Ryan

If your laptop supports HDMI then it will work, if not, then use a VGA with no sound.

I believe your laptop must have an HDMI out in the back to use HDMI. I dont think you can use a HDMI to usb.

Yeah I have a Sony Vaio so I guess I can't do it HDMI. I don't even have a DVI output on my PC. Here is a link to the PC I have. Thanks for the help so far. http://www.clearanceclub.com/product...IO-VGN-N220E-B

Well from what Ive read, you have a vga out, just use that. You wont have sound but your laptop will still be producing the sound. Thats how I have mine hooked up.

you can still hook it up without a hdmi cable. you need to get a cord that has auxillary jacks on one end and usb on the other. you picture wont be as good though. ^^^^^yep he is right you wont have sound though.

My old roomate had a setup like that last year and the picture was kinda nasty. I also saw a USB to HDMI cable, but it said for Playstation 3. Will this work? I just want my video to go through the tv. I'm going to look up the VGA out.

Just look on the back of your laptop for a monitor out connection, it should be a DB15 female. The picture through my VGA looks good. I just cant get the 15:9 wide screen to fit my resolution. So things tend to look stretched no matter what I do.

I use an s-video cord for the video and im pretty sure you can get a cord that plugs into the headphone jack of your laptop and the red and white inputs in your tv for the sound. Its not amazing quality but it works just fine and its far from bad quality.

All you need is a VGA cable for video and a 3.5mm stereo male plug (headphone plug) on one end and RCA (left and right) on the other for sound. They sell them at RadioShack and most other electronics stores.

S-Video has a serious resolution limitation that you don't have to worry about if you can use VGA.

Most TVs do not come with DVI anymore. DVI was replaced by HDMI. You can get vga to dvi or dvi to hdmi adapters if you need. The hardest/most frustrating part is going to be matching up resolutions between your video card and the tv. Positioning can also be a problem, but the latest ati catalyst or nvidia software can help with that.

That being said, a lot of laptops are coming with hdmi-out for this exact purpose. See the newer XPS Laptops as an example.

For sound, I think you can just use a miniplug to from headphone jack to the TV (assuming it has an input for that), or a miniplug -> RCA (red/white) adapter from radioshack?

use a VGA cable from laptop to TV for video
use a 3.5mm to Left and Right (monotone) RCA converter for sound or get some nice computer speakers.

You wont have any picture quality issues with that setup

USB to HDMI

Hi,
The USB to HDMI Converter is going to be available shortly from Atlona. Check-out AT-HDPiX. You can connect up to 6 units to any PC or up to 4 units to any Mac.

This is the correct answer. Your tv should have an audio jack to go with the PC input. You can get all of the cables from walmart for under 20 bucks. A wireless keyboard and mouse are a plus as well. Get a 2.4Ghz type to avoid line of sight issues.
