New to building / Will this work?

That's what I have so far, I'm just not sure if it will all work together or if there are better options.

I don't really do anything intensive on my comp, just iTunes, Auto Cad, and I play the Sims occasionally.

Will this setup work? Are there better motherboard/processor combos for what I need?

Also I'm clueless about memory...

It will work, yes.

Do you really need or want the Nvidia chipset?
If you don't need it (or don't really want SLI), I'd opt for an Intel or even AMD chipset.
More reliable and runs cooler.

As for the case, know that it is a full tower. When you receive it, if you're not familiar with computers, the case will seem huge to you. The most popular size is midtower, and that fits plenty of hardware.

The AMD/ATI connection is not necessary.

Nah I don't need it.

What would be some good ideas for motherboards? ASUS is really good right?

I do know it's a full tower, do you think that might be too big? I like the Antec 900 too, and it's a mid.

I have the Antec 900 and it is nice. Plenty of room, sturdy, and looks sweet. Not to mention it has amazing cooling. Just buy 2 more fans with the case to fill all the spare fan spots.

As for the motherboard, I'm assuming you'd like to stay with AMD to keep costs down?

That's pretty sick.

Eh not really the cost I guess I just though AMD Phenoms were good?

Are Intels much more expensive? Are they better?

An Intel setup would probably run you about $50-100 more.

IMO, Intel is a step ahead of AMD. I did a bunch of research prior to building my computer, and I concluded that AMD is a little behind.

Ben is right. The benchmark numbers you are going to see everywhere will show that AMD is behind Intel.

ATI on the other hand, not so much behind NVidia. The new 48 series cards are very slick and 2x 4850's will give you significantly more performance than a GTX 280 at a cheaper price.

Not to mention the 4850's will clock to 700mhz easily.

The gotcha is your best performance will be on an AMD chipset motherboard - which means running AMD.

Ok... NO QUESTION you need to get an ATI 4850 for around $150AMIR

E7200 or E8400,E8500 depending on what you're looking to spend.

I am partial to DFI motherboards. Mine is SOLID

Antec 900 is a GREAT case.

looks good but does that case come with a power supply? most likely not, get at least a 600 watt power supply (i usually go for the highest rated best deal\brand) . $165 seems a lot for a case to me i got my cooler master centurion for like $80 shipped off newegg.

It doesn't but I was just going to use the one I have now, a Enermax 650.

Is your case a full or mid?

THe build looks MUCH better.

Personally, as it stands right now, I'd go for an Intel X48 chipset and an ATI HD 4870 GPU (Runs about $250).

But since you have the X48 chipset, you'll be able to pick up another HD 4870 in the future for a Crossfire setup to gain a big performance gain.

Like David stated, ATI isn't far behind Nvidia at all. Their newer cards give a LOT more performance for your dollar at the moment.
