Help with build.

So i decided to build a new pc. I play alot of games and surf pron i mean the internet. I used to keep up with all the technology and comparisons but lost touch the past year or two (too busy with the Z ). I semi have a idea of whats out there and dont want to spend aton like last few times ive built. I plan on reusing my hard drives. 2- 35g 10k raptors and a 250g sata. Ill prob run the 2 raptors in a raid 0 or something not sure. Im thinking i wanna spend around 800-1200. Need vid, mobo, ram. Post up suggestions.

Thinking something like this for vid
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130367

Not sure if i should go core 2 duo or quad for down the road. And ram no clue if ddr3 will be worth it.

I'd stay away from the GTX series for now. Too many problems.

Since you already have the hard drives, that'll save some money. 800-1200 can get you a kick ass computer. I'll build you a list here.

Optionally, you can go for Core2Duo instead of Quad and pick up the 45nm E8400 @ 3.0gz for $170

Total is $1260 with the Q9400 and $1155 with the E8400.

DDR2 is plenty right now, and DDR3 is way too expensive still.
The X48 chipset supports Crossfire, hence the dual HD 4870 GPUs. They will run hot, so be sure you have a case with efficient cooling.
I love Gigabyte boards for a couple reasons. First, they use very little energy when idling. Second, they have smart cpu throttle controls that lower your FSB when the computer doesn't need it, but raises it when it needs the power. Third, the support is very good on the boards. They also have good heatpiping and don't run hot.

Well mobo wise ive used asus alot before with good results but ran intel too. Cooling wise I have a full size tower with watercooling thats cools my cpu (amd fx-60) and 2 gtc 7950's that are oc'd alittle. Power supply I have a nice 900w already cant rember the brand tho and at work right now. I do wanna run 2 monitors. Other then that im open to alot of suggestions and budget not written in stone. Are the ddr3 ram mobos backward compatible with the ddr2?

So what do you want to reuse from the old computer? For newer hardware, you may need different or more power connectors, such as PCI-E, 20+4pin, 8pin cpu, etc.

DDR3 mobos are backwards compatible.

not all ddr3 borads are backwards compatible. read the specs.

my 2 cents, get the

1 - the best case you can afford

2 - the best psu you can afford

the rest is ez.... just pick a side red or green

Im thinking from old system reuse the case and watercooling and harddrives. Would be nice to have a ddr3 mobo and use ddr2 so i have some upgradeability down the road. Not sure bout processors - duo core or quad core. Seems alot of people have diff views on this one.

Guess ill try quad core out. Might as well grab a new psu to be on the safe side. As long as i can run 2 monitors and have great performance im open to any vid cards suggestions. Im not a nvidia or radeon fanboy so im open to both. I know with my current setup tho if i run sli i lose 2 monitor capability and that sucks imo.

2 ATI 4850's should be plenty for you to do some capable gaming. Visiontek will give you a lifetime warranty too.

Intel or AMD will work, I'd go AMD but then I'd get flamed by Bennifer again.

Nehalem is not here yet and is going to be geared more for servers, a market AMD is still strong in.

Yeah i saw ur post and appreciate the advice. Decideing if i wanna just new a whole new tower and water cooling system or reuse what i got. Few decisons to make. I noticed alot of the core2 duo mobos are compatible with quad cores too which leaves room to upgrade some down the line.

I want a real good gaming pc basically with some ability to beef it up down the road if needed.

99%, if not all, new motherboards support Core2Duo and Core2Quad.

I just bought the Asus Evolution to replace my EVGA 790i Ultra board... Got tired of how unstable the EVGA is, random crashes, BSOD's, and random reboots... I will never buy another board based on Nvidia chipset... They all sucked IMO...

The Evolution installed with no problems and runs extremely stable, after a week I have had no problems at all... Which is nice because when your doing a home movie rendering that takes 6-7 hrs, the last thing you want is a BSOD or random reboot...

wow man, this is what i am talking about..... i just dumped x48 for 790 ultra.... could not be happier....

it is a hit and miss.... and it looks like it has nothing to do with the brand or oem manf.

We have the technology, but we can’t mass produce it and we can’t for chit write soft to support it.

Crysis is a epic fail as far as programming goes. I did bring it down to it’s knees , but at what cost ?

Tech future is very dim…. We can’t think anymore or just don’t care to.

I never understood why Crysis is a benchmark. Why would you benchmark your hardware against poor code? That's like saying "let's benchmark this new turbo kit for the G35 on a Civic K series motor. YEAH!"

Because everyone knows, Hondas suck.
