Hey guys,
I've been using MAC OSX since May, and I like it! It is not a true mac though, I managed to install MAC OS on my PC, and it runs PERFECT! No slow-downs, no crashes... NOTHING!!! I am amazed! It is a custom built PC with carefully chosen, quality parts in it and a Dual Boot Windows Vista and MAC OSX.
I am still a MAC OS newb, and I'm learning.. The system pisses me off sometimes, certain things are done easier in Windows, but it's not the point.. I like it and I don't want to use Windows for the every day use, MAC all the way.. It's got my Logic Studio 8 running beautifully, doesn't crash like ugly and user-unfriendly Cubase, my CoD4 running as good as in Windows, so I think I am officially done with Windows, I won't buy a MAC, but I did buy the system to install on the hardware I want to have and use.
Question...
You know how in Windows you have the Audio Controls, where you can lower the bass, up the trebble if you need to...etc... Where the hell is it in MAC?? Doesn't look like it has anything similar to it, just the volume thingy... Are there any programs I can download which control the main audio output? Where I can actually equalize the signal?
I'll have more questions later on... this is the only one for right now.
Thanks!

im not exactly sure what kind of set up you have. but it sounds like it is still a windows based PC, that allows MAC OSX to operate along side of it. in which case, your main audio output would still be controlled from windows, and the settings should remain when you are in MAC. since windows is still what operates the drivers for your soundcard. purely a guess on my part, since i really have no idea what your set up is like.

LOL please take your useless knowledge somewhere else!
He has a dual boot system with Mac OS-X as one boot, and Windows on the other. Both run separately from each other.

like i said, it was a guess based on the very little info given. dual boot system would be a new thing to me, since im not a fcukin computer nerd. and even though you are, you dont seem to have an answer to the question either. so i guess we can both agree to take our uselessness elsewhere
As I am new to MACs, I can't give him a good answer. I have worked on PCs for 25 years. I was able to figure out what he was talking about. Tell ya what, if you don't know much, why help?
I think the sound issue would depend on whether he's using OSX as a virtual machine or not- from what he's saying I don't think he is. That being the case, the sound driver would be directly installed in OSX rather than emulated through the PC shell (whatever it is that he's using).

That's correct... It's a hackintosh and it is not running in virtual mode.
As far as I can see, I'll probably have to buy a Firewire/USB MAC compatible PRO sound card, and hope it will have it's own Control Panel.

OP, just a nosey question on my part. Why would you need an equalizer outside of iTunes? For gaming or something. I'm trying to figure out your application so I can help (maybe).

Here's one that I found that looks like what you're wanting. It's not free, but it looks pretty decent. They have a demo that you can run before you buy.
edit: I think this is exactly what you are looking for. I was concerned that it was an app that you had to have open all of the time, but I downloaded it and adjusted the "3D" setting, then closed the app. It held the change. There are a gazillion settings in it that I haven't tried yet.
Hope this helps.

I google'd "Mac bass treble control" and got this basically:
Quote:
It's not hidden.. there's nothing for system-wide. AFAIK there's no 3rd party app to do it either.
It needs to be built into each application.

You can't do it inside OS X without a 3rd party app. Either get a 3rd party app or use an external EQ (the best option if you're connecting to external speakers).
