Nvidia motherboards have a history of more errors and running hotter than Intel chipsets.
Alienware is crap. You pay twice as much (or more) for the same hardware. You can argue you pay for service and support, but then you'd be in the same boat as Mac loyalists.
Take advice from this guy who thinks SLI is a good decision right now.
A single high-end card is more than enough for most applications/games. If you insist on using SLI with high-end cards, I assume you're playing in huge resolutions with games that require high power like Crysis. With SLI'd high-end video cards, you need to make sure you have a high-quality, powerful psu to power them adequately.
Intel P-series is what I'd recommend for you. P45.

Listen to spork! Ive built 5-6 gaming rigs and even bought a top end alienware once. Alienware is super overated. Ive done water cooling, raids, sli etc etc...
I prefer intels boards over nvidias. One good video card is better then most sli setups imo. Im thinking your ram will be the bottleneck on your system but u should still be good.
Alienware is for rich people who need dedicated tech support in case something goes wrong. They make great rigs, they just charge out the ass for it.
Being able to talk to the dude on the phone who actually built your rig is pretty cool. You could do this with your computer shop down the street, too, but you won't get the bragging rights to tell people you spent $4500 on an Alienware rig (which will get you laughed at by most/all enthusiasts).
