I have 700gb free on my 1tb external HD, but it doesn't allow me to copy more???

Hi guys I need an answer quick, so I have a 1tb external harddisk for all the) p0rn and serious stuffs, but when I try to copy an entire dvd (which is only 4gb) onto this drive it said it need more space? It shows that I still have 700gb though, what gives?

Did you try another computer? Did you try copying something else?

I seen this before and the only way I resolved the issue was by formatting the drive. That might not be the solution. Just letting you know what happen.
