I'm going to break my contract with At&T very soon and going with Tmobile, right now i have the option to upgrade to the Iphone 3Gs for $299, if i do this i will have to renew my contract with At&T.
my question is if i buy the new Iphone and then break my contract is there going to be any other charges besides the charges after you break the contract with AT&T?
Cost of the iphone? Just buy a new iPhone and don't get a contract. Its much easier and will be cheaper in the long run.
You can't buy an iphone without a contract from At&T, if i want buy an Iphone 3gs from Ebay they go from 500 and up.
I'm going to break my contract with At&t soon and i have to pay to break the contract i believe its around $150, i don't want to call At&t and raise red flags to them before i break the contract.
i don't need the data plan anymore with Tmobile i will be paying $49.99 for two phones vs what i'm paying right now $80 with At&t, the 3Gs is twice faster than my first gen Iphone, i dont need the 3g signal, i'll give my old Iphone to my GF and i'll keep the new Iphone.
With the $170 ETF, the 3GS is still cheaper than what you would pay retail from Apple. (some countries outlaw the type of exclusivity deal that Apple has with AT&T) This is really biting them in the ass too, I know numerous folks that have made the switch.
By the way, the ETF goes down every month of your contract that you complete.
And yes, the 3G and 3GS work just fine with T-Mobile, with the exception of HSPDA (3G) because T-Mobile lost the auction for the common frequency bands and uses a proprietary band for their 3G. The support of MMS makes up for the lack of 3G IMO, yes, you heard right, you can't send picture messages through AT&T with the iPhone because AT&T sucks!
Not to mention you get better bang for your buck with T-Mobile, and they don't force you to pay $30 extra a month for a special "smartphone" plan just because you have an iPhone.
-T-Mobile customer for 7 years
-AT&T customer for two months
And I get a government discount, but I still think they suck.

lol, you prefer sending MMS on an iPhone 3GS than having the 3G speeds for surfing the web, watching youtube vids, browsing my350z, streaming music, watching TV on Slingplayer, etc? Might as well return the 3GS and just pick up the 3G. AT&T will also be enabling MMS in September.

Of coarse it's gonna suck for you. AT&T doesn't have any coverage in your area. You should've done your research before starting a service with AT&T Wireless. It's as simple as checking the coverage map on AT&T Wireless website.

There is no MMS yet hence the lawsuits. We're all hoping for September.
the 3G is 99 plus the real tax so like 150. the 3Gs is 199 plus the real tax so like 275
The 3Gs has vid...that is the ONLY difference.
meh wait for 4G. Japan has it....it's just a matter of time
I think you must keep the phone for at least 30 days before you cancel. If you cancel on day 29 they will ask you to return the phone or to pay for it full price. So if you are going through with it cancel on day 31..
