My mother inlaw and father inlaw have 2 computers in their house. 1 computer is connected directly to the linksys modem and is always conencted to teh interent. Its DSL from Qwest. The other computer is a laptop with wireless. I can see the modem and its SSID with the laptop, but when I try to connect it wants a password. Of course niether one of them know what the password is. Is there a way for me to maybe talk to the modem by typing in an IP address and then seeing what the password is?
edit- I have tried admin and password and also just leaving it blank. I also tried a couple of passwords they said it should be. No luck.
You will need to be on the computer that is hardwired to the modem/router.
in your internet browsers address bar, type the ip address of the routers configuration page. (a lot of times it's 192.168.1.1 by default)
It should prompt for a username and password. Type the default username/password for that particular model. It should allow you to access the settings and view/change the wireless password.
You will need to use google to find the above information for the defaults of your particular hardware.
If all else fails you will probably need to do a hard reset to change ALL settings back to default.

Hey bstandsbu, this is Brian with Qwest. If you would like, I would be happy to help try and either reset the password, or help find it with you. If you want my help, please e-mail me at TalkToUs@Qwest.com, at put my name in the subject line.
If you are trying to connect to a linksys router, if username/password is not admin/admin then it's (blank)/admin. If that doesn't work, you might as well hold down the reset button on the back of router.
Oh, well go in the router. If it is a Linksys router, open up your web browser and type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. A login will display with username and password, try the ones that I listed above. Once you are in the router, you are going to see tabs and I believe the password is under security maybe admin, can't remember. If you can't get ahold of the network password then change the current one and save. Once, that is complete, close the web browser and click on the network then enter the password. Hope that helps

Awesome- I am over 9,000 miles away from it right now, but in 2 weeks when I get home, Ill give it a shot. My inlaws will be soo happy. Thanks!!
When I click on the wireless connection on the laptop for the router a screen comes up just wanting a password. There was no option to put a username.
thats because you're trying to connect wirelessly.... stop doing that... you're never going to get connected that way.
Connect to it over a wired connection, and connect to the routers configuration page. My post had precise instructions given the lack of details (make/model).
