Default weird IE6 issue, links offer to save the html file instead of open?

This is for a test box - needed to test coding for our devs, so cut me some slack on the browser choice/out of date browser

Clicking links will result in a prompt of where to save the html file as opposed to just following the link in the browser itself.

any quick way to resolve this? I don't get to work on it until tomorrow morning so I am kind of just brainstorming in advance. I imagine resetting the browser settings and file associations to defaults *should* fix it, but I am not confident.

any other thoughts on things to try? appreciate your help.

seems to be very strange issue that others cannot resolve. Check this link out:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Soft..._24473686.html

scroll all the way to the bottom for the discussion about the issue.

but they didn't seem to resolve it.

they say possibly malware, but since it is a testbox maybe uninstall and reinstall ie,

yeah it has to be infected some how. the malware portion of our software was disabled when I logged into it this morning.

going the easy route, if spybot won't clean it up enough I'm just going to image the sob.

a decent chunk of the market is always behind, and if you want your coding to work for all users.. it's a required evil to test on their setup as well. heh, sucks!

It was malware. Spybot removed two entries (sorry.. I should have paid more attention so I could at least relay what was causing it), and it restored full functionality.

I didn't explain it very well either. Internet explorer was completely inoperable, couldn't access any websites. It would close no matter what page you tried to load, in any way you can imagine.

That would be the fix for explorer, but not internet explorer. I'm pretty sure you can't change file type associations for html inside ie, they should always open in ie.
