I've been seeing some of my friend's facebook page getting hacked. So how does that work? Is it a virus that steals password and someone logs in as you? Is it a virus on your computer or on facebook site(probably not but might as well ask)? How can you prevent it?
I didn't get it but would want to know how it works to protect myself.
I did some reading and it seems like they fall into the category of a virus that's installed on the victim's computer. Thing is with people using short urls, it's hard to find out what it is before clicking on it. Also shouldn't the firewall prevent virus from being installed?
Two of my friends got it and would like to know how not to get it. Knowledge is power.
can someone explain to me how you use a slim jim to pop a lock i want to know not to steal a car but in case I ever need to use a slim jim to pop a lock and put pictures of my weiner in the car someone tell me how pls
1. You should never click on links that you don't know.
2. Never launch a file that is of extension *.exe" without scanning it first
3. Always have an updated Virus Scanner with some sort of real-time scanning
4. Always have an updated Firewall on your computer
5. Periodically run spyware tools like "spy-bot"
6. Don't give out any personal information/passwords (Fishing)
7. Update Windows with the monthly updates
8. Run a browser like Firefox with script blocking

Thanks Trodis. I follow all eight rules. With things link tinyurl though, it's impossible to know what is behind those links. I guess I could be paranoid and not click on any of them.
When those links are clicked, does it prompt you to install an .exe? run a script?

Consider this a public warning to cut off the instigation. If you don't have something productive to contribute, keep it to yourself.

Basically a false login screen pops up and asks you to "please login" and steals your info...
It looks exactly the same as the actual FB login screen, but the url is different (most people overlook it and don't notice). When you enter your username/email & password, it saves it.

I understand, you have to consider the dangers of the internet to the real world. No one can walk around paranoid all day, you just have to have a little common sense when doing things. Sounds like you are doing everything anyone can these days. Not having those things mentioned above is like not locking your car and leaving the keys in them, so be smart and lock the doors.

what exactly is the virus youre experiencing?? i had something happen with my account. where it posted some weight loss add, on mine, and all my friends walls. i wouldnt have ever logged on to a fake login screen. cause i never log in from links through my email. i always just go to facebook.com and log in there. the weird thing is, that those viruses usually keep sending spam, over and over. but this one just did it once, and then quit.
