So I use AVS6 as my software tool for converting said video files to be viewable on dvd. My issue is this: During the conversion, the file is being stripped down from 6chnls (5.1DD) of crisp surround sound audio to just 2chns! And the video (not that big of a deal) from 1280x720 down to 720x480.
I do not see a way to adjust this in settings. Is anyone familiar with this product? If not can you recommend software that will not "chop the file down" to 2chnls audio?
I have attached a screen-shot of a file I was about to convert and you can clearly see the input and output differences...
When you say "viewable by dvd", do you mean viewable by stand-alone DVD players? I'm pretty sure you can't encode it any higher than 720x480 because there are restrictions to what resolutions/dimensions/ARs in the mpeg2 format you can use in DVDs.
Now if you're just wanting to rip movies and retain the AC3 track, try the other apps previously mentioned work.
I would suggest you just buy movies legitimately.....these problems magically disappear.
especially if you want to encode dvds you own to work on any other device, such as an iphone.
I bought this dvd legally but it didn't come with a version for any other device. I guess I'll sit on my hands and wait until the industry comes around.

What if he bought them at iTunes? You do not know he got them illegally. What if his friend bought the movie ripped it and letting him borrow it online? You don't know. Do not assume anything.
EDIT: or maybe he filmed them with his HD camera and wants to make a DVD out of it with out loosing anything.

He's not talking about ripping DVD's....he's talking about putting a movie file on DVD.
Slow ya role down hater! I never stated anything about ripping shyt! I record plenty of home movies with 2 types of cameras and FYI my question was "specific" and your whackass opinions (as usual) aren't needed in this thread. Plus... whatever my intentions are/were that also is of no concern to you.
How'd you record 6 channel audio from your home vid cam btw? Didn't know you could do that nowadays.
But if I was trying to burn a 720p/24fps, .MP4 movie file, with a run time of 1:36:07 and uses AC3 for audio... like a high res rip of Resident Evil Degeneration... I'd check to see if AVS has a AC3 sound output option. Or try another app.
