Ok I have a dual core e8600 and a q9550. I mainly play games with a few applications running in the back ground on a dual nonitor setup. Im running vista 64 bit ultimate (hope to upgrade to win 7 soon) with 8 gigs ddr3 ram and a ati 4870x2 gpu.
Now for the question. Which do u think i should run with? I know most games dont use multi core etc and the few programs in the background are stuff like firefox , aim, ventrilo and maybe another 1 or 2 depending on what im doing.
my take .. you are not going to see much of a difference either way, so might as well load up the slower per core quad core.
I prefer a faster clock speed dual core myself.. I know most apps and games will not take advantage of a quad and they sit there idle.. not being put to work.
I contradict myself in my answer here, but oh well.
