Since I was lucky enough to get a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (legitimately, not stolen) and my power supply burned out I figured I'd start on a new build.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE w/Zalman 9900LED
Asus M4A79T Deluxe
OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 2x2GB
ATI 4870 1GB
Kingwin LZ-850 Modular
Already had an X-fi sound card, couple hdd, Antec 900, and blu-ray drive I got a good deal on, but the video card isn't here yet because they shipped a 4850 instead so I'm still using my old X850XT PE. Yes I was long overdue for a new pc and so far I am really happy.
No issues at all, booted first time and been running great. Just can't wait to test out some new games.
Few quick pics from while I was switching out my video card. Haven't really had a chance to see what it can do yet as I need to pick up a new game that is worthy of my new system.
Also pictured are my partner in assembly and proof I need to be more careful around my cpu cooler
I work retail and was able to get a discount price for my cpu/gpu through retailaccess.com Intel is faster on the high end, but it probably would've cost me another $300 to go with an Intel build, and that is factoring in discount prices that I could've had an Intel bundle for a few months back.
If I was paying full price for everything the difference would've been more, and I don't think it's worth the extra cost for the marginal increase in performance.
I purchased Dragons Age: Origins, and I gotta say I really don't like this game.
