I DJ at clubs every week. If your serious about it you will not like that thing. But if you just want to mess around it should work great for you . There are about 5 really good controllers off the top of my head around that price you can get for djing. DO some research pm them and you will be happy.
If you have the money just get a Numark NS7 or Vestax VCI300 and be done with it. I have both and the NS7 simply amazing, but cost a lot (but its the only thing you need to buy), and also not a good idea to only have if your djing a lot like i do.
I have the VCI300, NS7 and a full turntable setup i use weekly. Or just be super cheap and get just a software program you run off your laptop, not nearly as fun but you get the basics of djing. Good luck!!!
I learned how to mix on software (Atomix, Tracktor, Virtual DJ) .. after 10 years of mixing on software i finally bought equipment.. at that point it just felt natural

Doug, is it recommended to first start off with software and then move up to turn tables, etc.? I've never messed with DJ equipment before but know a thing or two about running sound. Always wanted to learn about DJing and now I got some time so I thought I would give it a shot.

well software is the cheapest way to learn beat count.. mixing and beats per min.. you get good at software and real tables will be alot easier.. but either on tables or software.. practice over and over.. only way to get better

dont waste your money on anything but technic MK1200's... you will hate your self once you know what you are doing for wasting the money...
If your not gonna get real turn tables and final scratch or what ever they have now... get some good Pioneer CDJ's...
thats some pretty sh!tty advice.. you're going to tell someone if they don't spend $600 on turntables or $1200 on CD Tables they can't learn the craft? come on man.. be serious.. this isn't the difference between a G35 Coupe and a Ferrari..
all of you wanting to learn.. please don't go out and spend endless amounts of money on equipment to learn.. don't feel if you can't afford the best of the best you can't learn or get better
any direct drive turntable or cd tables is great to learn on.. you don't need to spend all that money.. all you need to learn is basic operation and how to use a mixer.. and make it all come together..

Maybe the newer direct drive deck's may be better than they were 10 years ago... i dont know...
really the best thing to do, is if you have a friend who is a dj... learn the basics on his rig...

Do not spend money on all that gear, djing is not for everyone!!!! Just check out all the setups for sale in your local craigslist that were "bought a month ago"....... its a waste of money to dive into something you really arent into except for a fad of being a DJ.
Just so you guys know DJing is just like modifying cars, shiz is addicting and expensive. When i started doing it i was fine for a month, then i wanted all the new gadgets and effects boxes, nifti midi controllers, samplers, colored vinyl, scratch needles, crazy nice headphones, etc etc etc.
And doing it mobile will cost thousands , who knows how much i put in it already. One of my setups pictured below is roughly 5 thousand Thats a used turbo kit lol.
Serato is the industry standard at hip hop clubs if anyone is planning on getting into that scene. Its expensive initially but the support and lifetime free updates makes it worth every penny. It does not offer lots of features other programs do though, the focus with serato is on stability.

Thanks Man
+1 on price.. my setup was about $12,000 ... and everytime i do a party with my speakers and amp rack i have to rent a truck or a U-Haul.. if i'm going out of state i usually rent a pickup truck from Enterprise ($90/Day), but becasue my amp rack is so heavy i have to get 2 other people to lift it in the pick-up truck.. otherwise if i'm by myself and its somewhat local i rent a uhaul truck ($180 w/ mileage) because it has a ramp i can push the amp rack up.. since its on wheels..
I definately want a more mobile setup this year.. i really don't need 10,000 watts everywhere i go.. some nice portable speakers would do the trick.. my brother has a nice portable setup he fits in his station waggon that he uses for when he DJ's weddings.

If you want portable i highly suggest the new qsc K series Subs and tops. they sound amazing!!!!! Im trying to switch to them but economy makes it hard to sell used pro audio. I want two Ksubs and Two K10 tops and i will be good for most venues
