Default Restaurants Owned by Famous Chefs (where have you been?)

Trying to plan our trip to Chicago next weekend and looking at restaurants owned by famous chefs.

Got me thinking of all the celebrity chef's restaurants I've been to so I'll list what I remember:

NY - Nobu - Awesome Miso Cod!!
New Orleans - Emeril - Awesome service and really good steak.

btw if anybody has good recommendations for Chicago please let me know!

Thanks!

Do you want the chef to be there or just eat in their restaurant?

If you're in chicago, def go to Moto. I went there last week for the 20-course tasting and it was AMAZING, one of the best meals of my life. They do molecular gastronomy the right way and are very very very creative.

I always go to Morimoto when Im in philly. Get free food there almost all the time.

As for Volt, I went there 3 months ago and it was the most horrible dining experiences of my life, was beyond ridiculous. I went with 5 people and we literally ordered the whole menu. Overpriced and pretentious. My dish, sea bass w/saffron risotto, was the worst. Bass was waay overcooked and the risotto was undercooked AND overseasoned. I sent it back and declined when they asked if I wanted anything else. Then Bryan himself came out to apologized and kept trying to push another dish on me, so I said fine since he was being very persistent. Was this arctic chard which was very bland and flavorless. At the end of it all, they still charged me for the sea bass. Anyway, I hope you're going for the table 21 cuz I heard better things about that. Stay away from their a la carte menu. Only thing worth getting on there is the mushroom raviolis and the foie.

Fatburger in Columbia, MD owned by Orlando Brown. He's the NFL player that had that ref's flag thrown at his eye (back when they had metal beads in them) and he went crazy on the ref. Sued the NFL and got a lot of money. He played for the Ravens and Browns.

He's at the restaurant more often than I would have thought and is pretty active. He cleans the tables, serves food, helps cook, and asks customers how things are going. My brother and I sat down at a table right after the previous customers left and he came up to us asking if we wanted him to clean the table. He asked like 3 times because we kept saying no, lol.

I will first say that Sra. Martinez in Miami, owned by Michelle Bernstein is one of my favorites. I really love the unique infusion of flavors (bone marrow, foie gras, pork belly) that go into each tapas style dish. I have been to quite a few nice places but I will give you some good recommendations for Chicago:

Paul Kahan: Blackbird
Charlie Trotter: Charlie Trotters
Rick Bayless: Topolobampo (However, since winning Top Chef Masters you are looking at about a 6-8 week wait)

Honorable mentions:

Nine Steakhouse (Ghost Bar upstairs)
Avec
Chicago Chop House
Smith and Wollensky
Catch 35

Didn't end up going anywhere famous. But found this link showing where "top chef" restaurants are located:

http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...g3.html?cat=22

Hmmm......maybe we should make like a "Favorite Restaurants by City" thread? I know you can use yelp or chowhound, but sometimes my350z is helpful too

I got a friend and his entourage into Emeril's New Orleans back when there was a Super bowl there. I found and called his mom and said I went to culinary school with him. She bought it and gave me his direct line.

I called and got him on the phone and I got a group of folk that I was schmoozing into his restaurant during superbowl with major treatment and a visit from Emeril to the table and I'd actually never met him. It was all BS.

My friend was pretty enamored of what I pulled off because he was schmoozing Ford UAW guys who he brought to Superbowl. I did it from CA. I'm not proud of that but ...yeah...I am proud of that.

Have heard NOTHING but stellar reviews. you are talking about Keller's three Michelin star restaurant. C'mon, you're kidding with this week sauce. This is one of the top three restaurants IN THE COUNTRY.

( I goofed my way into my friends eating at Emeril's...I doubt I could goof my way into them eating at Laundry....)
